About IEI Advisors
IEI Advisors is a boutique sell-side M&A advisory firm exclusively serving owners of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and (soon) electrical contracting businesses. Since 2021, IEI has closed over $200M in transaction value, representing sellers exclusively — never buyers. We're now expanding into the commercial electrical vertical alongside our core mechanical practice, and we need someone to run point on deal execution.
The Role
You'll be the engine that moves deals forward from the moment IEI wins an engagement all the way to a closed wire. You'll take true ownership of each transaction — building the financial story, running the buyer process, driving diligence, and shepherding the deal through to close — working closely with the Managing Partner step of the way. This is a seat with real ownership and real client-facing responsibility from day one: sellers, buyers, attorneys, and lenders will know you as the person keeping their deal on track.
You'll support both existing mechanical/HVAC/plumbing engagements and new electrical vertical deals as that practice ramps up, so you'll get exposure to two growth lines inside one firm.
What You'll Own
- Deal quarterbacking: manage the day-to-day workback schedule for each active engagement, keeping sellers, buyers, and internal stakeholders on track toward close
- Financial packaging: build and refine CIMs, financial databooks, add-back schedules, and normalized EBITDA analyses in partnership with the deal lead
- Buyer process management: coordinate outreach cadences, NDA execution, data room access, and buyer Q&A during the marketing and diligence phases
- Due diligence coordination: serve as the seller's primary point of contact for buyer diligence requests; organize and manage the virtual data room; chase down documents from sellers and their accountants/attorneys
- LOI to close: track deal terms through negotiation, help coordinate legal counsel and lenders, and manage the closing checklist
- Internal systems: keep CRM (Salesforce) and deal-tracking records current
What We're Looking For
- 2–5 years of experience in M&A, investment banking, transaction advisory, corporate development, or private equity — ideally with lower-middle-market ($5M–$50M enterprise value) deal exposure
- Strong financial modeling and Excel skills; comfort building or refining CIMs and databooks
- Process-oriented — you like owning a checklist and driving it to completion without needing to be chased
- Comfortable being the primary contact for business owners as well as buyer-side deal teams, attorneys, and lenders
- Written and verbal communication sharp enough to represent the firm directly with clients and counterparties
- Prior exposure to the trades (HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, or construction) is a plus but not required
- Relevant certifications (CM&AA, FMVA, CBI, CFA, or similar) a plus but not required at hire — IEI supports ongoing professional education and will help fund and schedule time for pursuing certifications that strengthen your deal work
Compensation
Base salary: $85,000–$110,000, depending on experience level and prior deal exposure.
Bonus: $10,000–$20,000 per closed transaction, scaled by deal size/complexity
Illustrative all-in target: with 3–6 closings/year at current deal-size mix, total comp lands roughly $115,000–$210,000, with upside as the electrical vertical ramps and deal count grows.
