The School Spirit Store Manager is responsible for the daily operations, inventory management, financial health, and overall customer experience of the St. Mark's Episcopal School Spirit Store.
This role serves as a key brand ambassador, ensuring the store reflects the mission, values, and community spirit of St. Mark's while providing students, parents, faculty, and alumni with high-quality spirit wear and selected food and beverage items.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
1. Store Operations Management
- Manage daily store operations, including opening/closing, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and designing engaging visual merchandise displays.
- Establish and maintain store hours that accommodate the school community, including special hours for campus events (e.g., Back-to-School night, homecoming, athleticevents).
- Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers (parents) to assist with store operations if applicable.
2. Inventory, Merchandising & Food Service Management
- Source, select, and purchase inventory that aligns with St. Mark’s branding and school guidelines.
- Curate and manage a selection of pre-packaged food, snacks, and beverages that align with school wellness policies and allergy guidelines (e.g., peanut-free restrictions).
- Monitor food item expiration dates, ensure proper first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory rotation, and maintain strict food safety and sanitation standards for all edible inventory.
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, and oversee the procurement of spirit wear, uniform components, novelties, and food/beverage stock.
- Utilize Point of Sale (POS) and inventory management systems to track stock levels, conduct regular inventory audits, and minimize shrinkage or food waste.
3. Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee daily cash handling, credit card processing, and POS reconciliation.
- Collaborate with the Business Office to manage the store's budget, process invoices, and generate monthly sales and profitability reports.
- Implement pricing strategies that balance affordability for families with the financial goals of the school.
4. Marketing & Community Engagement
- Develop promotional campaigns and sales strategies to drive engagement and revenue.
- Collaborate with the Communications department to promote new items and store events via the school newsletter, website, and social media.
- Provide exceptional, welcoming customer service that reflects the hospitable, inclusiveculture of St. Mark's.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 2+ years of retail management, buying, or inventory control experience preferred. Experience handling food/beverage retail or concession management is highly desirable.
- Certifications: ServSafe or equivalent food handler certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
- Technical Proficiency: Strong familiarity with POS systems (Shopify), inventory software, and basic Microsoft Office/Google Workspace tools.
- Skills: Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail regarding food safety and product expiration dates.
- Mission Alignment: Deep respect for the community, traditions, and mission of an Episcopal school education.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move boxes of merchandise and food/beverage crates (up to 30 lbs).
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods during shift hours.
Pay: $21.00 - $23.50 per hour
