Position Summary
The Team Lead supports the mission, vision, and values of Mello by providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, and operational oversight for the retail sales floor and inventory functions. This role serves as a key extension of store management, ensuring exceptional customer service, inventory accuracy, compliance, merchandising standards, and team accountability.
The Team Lead is responsible for supporting daily store operations, developing staff, maintaining inventory controls, monitoring compliance requirements, and helping drive sales performance while creating a positive and productive work environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead by example and promote Mello's culture, values, and customer service standards.
- Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, and support to Budtenders, Receptionists, Inventory Specialists, and Fulfillment staff as applicable.
- Assist with onboarding and training new employees.
- Identify coaching opportunities and provide real-time feedback to improve performance.
- Conduct regular check-ins and support employee development initiatives.
- Help address minor personnel concerns and escalate issues to management or HR when appropriate.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and positive workplace culture.
- Support management in communicating company initiatives, policies, promotions, and operational changes.
Retail Operations
- Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) when assigned.
- Support daily sales floor operations and customer experience initiatives.
- Assist customers and provide product recommendations as needed.
- Ensure accurate and compliant customer interactions.
- Monitor online order fulfillment and assign staff resources as needed to maintain service levels.
- Coordinate employee breaks and lunches to ensure adequate floor coverage.
- Monitor employee productivity, professionalism, and adherence to company policies.
- Ensure the morning communication board and shift information are completed accurately.
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional retail environments.
- Monitor and maintain product displays, merchandising standards, and promotional materials.
- Ensure menu boards, digital displays, and promotional content remain accurate and current.
- Maintain awareness of current promotions, pricing, and product availability.
Inventory & Compliance Management
- Assist with maintaining accurate inventory records and inventory movement documentation.
- Participate in inventory counts, cycle counts, audits, and inventory reconciliation activities.
- Assist to ensure all inventory is properly organized, labeled, secured, and stored.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs.
- Verify inventory transfers, manifests, and transport deliveries.
- Accept and process incoming inventory in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Rotate inventory using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices.
- Monitor product expiration dates and coordinate removal of aging or expired inventory.
- Accurately document damaged, defective, returned, or destroyed products.
- Assist with nightly inventory audits and reconciliation procedures.
- Maintain compliance with METRC, Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) regulations, and company SOPs.
- Ensure sales floor inventory remains stocked, accurate, and customer-ready throughout the day.
Merchandising & Menu Management
- Assist with menu management across Dutchie and other sales platforms.
- Ensure product information, pricing, imagery, and availability are accurate.
- Maintain ancillary platforms including Dutchie, Weedmaps, Leafly, and other retail listings as assigned.
- Communicate menu changes, promotions, and product updates to staff.
- Support merchandising initiatives designed to increase sales and enhance customer experience.
- Maintain attractive product displays and promotional placements.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete opening and closing procedures and associated checklists.
- Monitor employee time punches and communicate discrepancies to management.
- Maintain required logs, reports, and operational documentation.
- Assist with preparation for audits, inspections, and inventory reviews.
- Participate in store meetings and help facilitate team communications.
Customer Service Expectations
- Deliver exceptional customer service during every customer interaction.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of cannabis products, accessories, promotions, and company offerings.
- Educate customers accurately regarding cannabis products and responsible use.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and escalate issues when necessary.
- Support sales initiatives through product knowledge and effective customer engagement.

Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of retail, inventory, leadership, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Cannabis industry experience preferred.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Experience using POS systems, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and train employees.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Schedule & Availability Requirements
- Must be available to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to respond to operational needs during peak business periods.
Physical Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission Agent Registration.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 40 pounds regularly.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform inventory-related tasks.
- Ability to work in both retail and inventory storage environments.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain current knowledge of cannabis products, industry trends, and applicable regulations.
- Complete all required training and compliance certifications.
- Support company initiatives, special projects, events, and operational improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Pay: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour
