American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse - Oncology Nurse Navigator requiring an active DC RN license and oncology nursing experience for a day-shift radiation oncology role.

Radiation Oncology setting supporting a Nurse Navigator role
-
Patients report Monday through Friday for radiation therapy
-
Primary diagnosis population is oncology patients
-
Day shift schedule, 5x8-hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
-
Office duties include chart preparation, disability form completion, pharmacy calls, and telephone triage

Charting completed in Cerner
-
Active DC RN license required in hand
-
BLS certification required
-
Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required within the last 7 years
-
Must have completed at least 1 previous travel assignment

Cerner charting system experience required
-
Experience with care and management of ports, central/implanted line care, and starting IVs on adults required
-
Experience managing oncologic emergencies including acute tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression required

Experience with neutropenic precautions and tracheostomy care/management required
-
Experience with external radiation therapy (teletherapy) and radiation safety precautions required

Experience managing symptoms such as altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy required

Wound care experience required

Nurse navigator or nurse coordinator experience preferred

Oncology and radiation oncology experience preferred
-
Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment
-
Provide direct patient care including education, skincare/wound care, and assessment of radiation toxicity
-
Assess patients for signs or symptoms of concern and consult with attending physicians, residents, or emergency services as needed
-
Address patients' social needs as part of holistic care
-
Flu vaccine required for all employees at this facility
-
No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment
-
RTO limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract and must be submitted with initial application
-
Local candidates within 60 miles are accepted at a lower rate
-
Previous MedStar employees must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler

First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
