As a DSP, you’ll support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by teaching life skills, promoting independence, and encouraging community involvement. Every day brings new opportunities to make a positive impact while building meaningful relationships.
Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides person-centered support to individuals receiving Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS). DSPs assist members in developing independence, participating in their communities, maintaining health and safety, and achieving goals identified in their individualized service plans.
This is a part-time weekend position with a consistent schedule. We are looking for someone who is reliable, compassionate, and committed to providing high-quality support.
Schedule
Preferred Schedule:
- Friday: 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Saturday: 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
- Sunday: 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
While this is our preferred schedule, we are willing to discuss alternative weekend availability for the right candidate. Additional weekday hours may become available based on staffing needs and employee interest.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Member Supports
- Assist members with activities of daily living while promoting independence.
- Teach life skills including cooking, budgeting, cleaning, personal hygiene, laundry, shopping, medication management (within certification and company policy), and community safety.
- Encourage members to make choices, build confidence, and achieve personal goals.
- Provide support in a respectful, person-centered manner that promotes dignity and independence.
Community Integration
- Assist members with community outings, appointments, recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and social events.
- Encourage participation in community activities and help members build natural support systems.
- Safely transport members using company or approved personal vehicles when necessary.
Person-Centered Services
- Follow each member’s Individual Service Plan (ISP), Behavior Support Plan, and company policies.
- Support members in reaching individualized goals while respecting their dignity, rights, privacy, and personal choices.
Health & Safety
- Monitor members’ health and overall well-being.
- Report incidents, illnesses, injuries, medication concerns, suspected abuse, and safety issues promptly.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming home environment.
- Respond appropriately during emergencies by following company policies and procedures.
- Assist members with medication administration if properly trained and certified.
Documentation
- Complete accurate and timely electronic documentation before the end of each shift.
- Document daily activities, goal progress, community participation, medication administration (when applicable), behaviors, incidents, and other required information.
- Ensure documentation meets Medicaid, HCBS, and company standards.
Teamwork
- Communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, guardians, case managers, medical providers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Attend required staff meetings and training.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and teamwork in all interactions.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- No experience required. Paid training provided.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to pass criminal background, abuse registry, and driving record checks
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or assist with up to 50 pounds as needed
- Ability to use a smartphone, tablet, or computer for electronic documentation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Medication Manager Certification (training available if needed)
