Stone Fabrication Shop Foreman - High-End Custom Stone
Fabrication
Company: A Cut Above Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Shop Manager / Production Manager Compensation: $65,000-$90,000+ annually
Work Location: In Person
We Are Looking for the Best
A Cut Above is growing aggressively, and we are looking for an exceptional Stone Fabrication Shop Foreman to
help lead the daily execution of our high-end fabrication floor.
This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced stone professional who knows how to lead people, solve
fabrication problems, maintain exceptional quality, and keep production moving.
We want someone who commands respect through experience and leads from the floor - not from an office.
Shop Foreman vs. Shop Manager
At A Cut Above, these are two distinct leadership positions with different responsibilities.
Shop Manager / Production Manager
The Shop Manager owns the overall fabrication operation. The Shop Manager is responsible for broader production
planning, staffing, scheduling, operational performance, equipment and resource planning, process improvement,
management reporting, production capacity, and coordination between departments.
The Shop Manager determines what the operation needs to accomplish and builds the systems and resources
required to accomplish it.
Shop Foreman
The Shop Foreman owns daily execution on the fabrication floor. The Foreman takes the production plan and makes
sure the team executes it correctly. You are responsible for directing the crew, assigning work, monitoring fabrication,
maintaining quality, troubleshooting problems, enforcing shop standards, and keeping jobs moving through production.
The Shop Manager runs the overall operation. The Shop Foreman runs the floor.
The two positions work closely together, but the Foreman is expected to be highly hands-on and directly involved with
daily production.
The Work
A Cut Above produces high-end custom stonework using granite, marble, quartzite, quartz, porcelain, sintered stone,
and other premium materials.
- Luxury kitchens and countertops
- Waterfall islands
- Custom stone fireplaces
Integrated and custom stone sinks
- Luxury bathroom applications
- Feature walls
- Outdoor kitchens
- Commercial surfaces
- Complex architectural stonework
This is sophisticated fabrication where measurements, seams, miters, vein direction, bookmatching, edge details,
material handling, and finished quality matter.
What You Will Own
- Daily fabrication-floor execution
- Crew assignments and production priorities
- CNC and fabrication workflow
- Employee productivity on the floor
- Workmanship and quality control
- Material handling and slab protection
- Preventing avoidable re-cuts and breakage
- Troubleshooting daily production problems
- Shop organization and safety
- Communicating production status to the Shop Manager
- Keeping scheduled projects moving toward installation
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily activity on the fabrication floor.
- Assign work based on the production schedule established with the Shop Manager.
- Direct CNC operators, saw operators, fabricators, polishers, finishers, and material handlers.
- Keep projects moving through cutting, CNC fabrication, polishing, finishing, quality control, and staging.
- Review drawings, digital templates, production tickets, measurements, and slab layouts before fabrication.
- Oversee CNC, SawJet, bridge saw, waterjet, and related fabrication operations.
- Supervise complex fabrication including miters, waterfall islands, fireplaces, integrated sinks, vanities, feature
walls, and architectural stonework.
- Monitor vein direction, bookmatching, seam placement, and material utilization.
- Catch potential problems before valuable material is cut.
Inspect work throughout fabrication for dimensional accuracy and finished quality.
- Troubleshoot fabrication, tooling, equipment, and production issues.
- Reduce re-cuts, breakage, mistakes, and unnecessary material waste.
- Monitor equipment condition and immediately communicate maintenance needs.
- Train and coach fabrication employees.
- Enforce standards for productivity, quality, attendance, organization, and safety.
- Communicate delays, problems, staffing issues, and production needs to the Shop Manager.
- Bring solutions - not simply problems.
- Coordinate with templating, programming, management, and installation teams to keep jobs moving.
What the Foreman Is Not Responsible For
The Shop Foreman is not being hired to replace the Shop Manager. While the Foreman provides important input,
broader management responsibilities remain with the Shop Manager / Production Manager, including:
- Overall departmental strategy
- Long-term production planning
- Final staffing and hiring decisions
- Departmental budgeting
- Major equipment and capital decisions
- Company-wide production capacity planning
- Management-level reporting and performance analysis
- Broader operational systems and process development
This allows the Foreman to stay focused on what matters most: The people, the work, the quality, and the execution
happening on the fabrication floor every day.
Who We're Looking For
We want a Foreman who leads from the floor - not from a chair.
You have worked with stone long enough to recognize when something isn't right before it becomes an expensive
mistake. You understand the difference between getting a job through production and producing something that
represents exceptional craftsmanship.
You know when to push production and when to slow down to protect the material and finished product. You know how to
hold people accountable - and you're willing to get personally involved when production needs you.
You don't walk past problems. You solve them.
When the shop gets busy, you prioritize, communicate, make decisions within your authority, and keep the team moving.
You earn the respect of experienced fabricators because you understand the work you're asking them to perform.

Why A Cut Above?

People + Technology + Equipment + Craftsmanship + Operational Excellence

responsibility to turn that direction into daily results.
As the company expands, people who demonstrate exceptional leadership, technical expertise, accountability, and results
will have the opportunity to grow with it.
