About Us
Admail West is an innovative, award-winning, digital print and direct mail company, independently owned since 1989, featuring state-of-the-art technology. We are SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA certified, ensuring unsurpassed data security measures.
Job Summary
Admail West is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Information Systems to lead our Information Technology function of the business. Our business is powered by a sophisticated, custom-developed application environment built over nearly two decades on Microsoft SQL Server and supported by a mature SOC 2 Type 2 compliance program.
This is a leadership role for a technology professional who excels at building and developing high-performing teams, establishing technical direction, and ensuring the security, reliability, and compliance of business-critical systems. Rather than serving as a hands-on developer or systems administrator, the Director of Information Services will provide strategic oversight, delegate technical execution, and partner with business leaders to align technology initiatives with organizational objectives.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in enterprise business applications, systems integration, and business process improvement, along with experience leading technology teams in a production or operational environment. Success in this role requires a forward-thinking leader who embraces innovation, champions the responsible use of artificial intelligence, and identifies practical opportunities to leverage technology to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and the customer experience.
Duties
· Lead the IT organization. Manage and develop the software-development and infrastructure teams; set priorities, remove obstacles, and hold a high bar. Delegate technical execution to the right people and outside partners.
· Own the SOC 2 Type 2 program end to end. Function as the compliance lead, ensure every control is executed and evidenced on time, own the relationship with the external auditors, maintain the risk register, and run the change-management and governance process. Keep the organization audit-ready year-round.
· Own the production-support and application layer at the leadership level. Understand how the core business systems work and what to do when they break, ensure the team can support them reliably (including off-hours), and reduce single-person dependencies through documentation and cross-training.
· Manage vendors and budget. Build and own a defined IT budget and a hardware/software replacement cadence, manage core vendor relationships, and ensure critical applications have appropriate support coverage.
· Drive the technical roadmap. Lead the near-term database-platform upgrade, the path off the legacy ERP system, and the broader application modernization.
· Champion measured Al adoption. Sponsor a step-by-step, security-conscious use of Al to reduce toil and improve production support, with sound data-governance discipline.
· Build resilience. Make institutional knowledge a documented, shared asset rather than something held in individual heads, and develop a succession-minded, well-cross-trained team.
Technical Skills and Experience
· Proven IT Leadership. Several years managing technical teams, ideally 8 or more years in IT with 3 or more in a leadership role; a track record of leading and delegating rather than doing all the work yourself.
· A compliance background. Hands-on experience owning or closely supporting a SOC 2 (or comparable, e.g. HIPAA / HITRUST / ISO 27001) program: controls, evidence, risk register, audit relationships, change management
· An application and business-process orientation. Comfort with custom line-of-business applications and SQL-backed systems; the ability to understand how software supports operations and to converse credibly with developers, without needing to write the code yourself.
· Security fundamentals. A solid working grasp of access control, MFA, encryption, vulnerability management, endpoint and network security, and incident response.
· Vendor and budget management. Experience owning an IT budget, replacement planning, and vendor and support-contract relationships.
· Communication and judgment. The ability to explain technical risk to non-technical executives in plain business terms, and the discipline to learn an environment before changing it.
· An Al-positive mindset. Curiosity about, and good judgment around, applying Al and automation responsibly.
Strongly Preferred:
· Experience in a print, mail, manufacturing, or other production/ operations-intensive environment.
· Familiarity with HITRUST, and with the cost and staffing implications of raising a compliance posture.
· Experience modernizing or migrating legacy applications and databases (for example, legacy ERP or older Microsoft technology stacks).
· Experience standing up documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-management practices on a previously undocumented estate.
