Responsibilities
- Perform dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) accurately while ensuring patient comfort and safety
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) using systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality
- Prepare and sterilize dental equipment following infection prevention protocols and aseptic techniques
- Monitor and record vital signs and medical information as part of comprehensive patient care
- Support infection control measures by adhering to healthcare infection prevention standards and managing sterilization processes
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth workflow and excellent patient experience
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice in a clinical setting
- Proven experience in dental hygiene, preferably within general dentistry or pediatric dentistry environments
- Proficiency with dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation and record management
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation
- Experience with dental x-ray procedures, including taking and developing radiographs safely
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems, medical records management, and electronic health documentation standards
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality practices, and healthcare infection prevention protocols
- Excellent communication skills for client education, team collaboration, and patient care documentation
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining high standards of infection control and aseptic technique
