American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Medical Intensive Care Unit position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and night shift availability.

Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations

14-bed MICU with a typical census of 14 patients
-
Patient population includes medical ICU patients with diagnoses such as respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, stroke, ARDS, pneumonia, cancer, and overdoses
-
Cares for hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring, chronic ventilator patients, and chronic trach patients
-
RN-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2 (occasionally 1:3)
-
12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
-
Weekend rotation of 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule

Floating required to all adult ICU units in-house, including PCU

EMR: Epic (experience required)
-
IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; patient monitors: Philips
-
Unit-specific equipment includes TABLO (renal replacement therapy), Belmont Rapid Infuser, VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, PCA pain management, SCDs, and cooling/heating blankets

Active GA or Compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

CCRN preferred but not required

Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Level 1 Trauma and/or academic teaching hospital experience preferred given work environment
-
Proficient in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin drips (including Glucommander), heparin drips, and vasoactive medication management
-
Experience monitoring and managing invasive lines including arterial lines, central venous lines, and intracranial pressure monitoring
-
Experience with ventilator management required

Experience with TABLO renal replacement therapy preferred

Epic EMR experience required
-
Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Responsibilities include managing hemodynamically unstable patients, titrating drips to hemodynamic parameters, and assisting with bedside procedures such as chest tube placement, tracheostomy, and PEG tube placement
-
CNAs on unit assist with vitals, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and patient transport
-
Unit secretary present 7a–11p; house-wide call secretary available 11p–7a
-
Charge nurse may carry a patient assignment
-
Phlebotomy is lab-collected on most units; nurses draw from CVLs
-
PICC team available; no general IV team
-
Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7
-
Central Telemetry Unit provides telemetry monitoring support
-
Resource/discharge nurses and a float resource team support the unit
-
Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
-
Holiday coverage required — one shift each for Thanksgiving Day or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
