La Jolla Grooming Company is seeking an experienced Front Desk Team Member to join our growing team. This is not an entry-level receptionist position. We’re looking for someone who already understands the grooming industry and can confidently support our clients, their dogs, and our grooming team in a fast-paced, high-end salon.
While this position may begin on a part-time basis, there is an opportunity to grow into a full-time role for the right candidate.
The ideal candidate is polished, proactive, highly organized, tech-savvy, and genuinely enjoys creating an exceptional client experience. This role requires someone who can think ahead, communicate confidently with clients, advocate for each dog’s needs, and keep a busy salon running smoothly while delivering the level of service our clients have come to expect.
Responsibilities
- Welcome clients and their dogs with professionalism, warmth, and exceptional customer service while creating a positive first impression.
- Conduct thorough check-ins by reviewing grooming requests, confirming contact information, and asking about any changes since the dog’s last visit—or, for new clients, gathering a complete history, including allergies, medical conditions, behavioral concerns, and any special instructions that may affect the groom.
- Schedule appointments while understanding breed-specific haircut styles, coat types, appointment timing, and groomer availability.
- Educate clients on recommended grooming schedules based on their dog’s breed, coat type, lifestyle, and maintenance needs.
- Answer phone calls, emails, and text messages promptly and professionally.
- Maintain the accuracy of the daily schedule by proactively communicating with clients regarding appointment confirmations, late arrivals, reschedules, and cancellations.
- Check pets in and out while accurately documenting grooming instructions and communicating them clearly with the grooming team.
- Communicate effectively with groomers throughout the day to keep the salon organized and running efficiently.
- Process payments and maintain accurate client records.
- Educate clients on coat care while confidently recommending appropriate retail products and add-on services; including teeth brushing, specialty shampoos, conditioning treatments, and other enhancements based on each dog’s individual needs.
- Anticipate the needs of clients and the team before being asked.
- Maintain a polished, organized, and welcoming front-of-house environment.
Qualifications
- Previous professional experience working in a dog grooming salon is required.
- Experience using Groomer.io is strongly preferred.
- Tech-savvy and comfortable learning new software quickly.
- Strong knowledge of breed-specific haircut styles, grooming terminology, coat types, and how to schedule grooming schedules properly.
- Ability to confidently identify common breed-specific haircut styles and accurately schedule appointments based on the services required.
- Ability to educate clients on grooming maintenance, coat care
- Ability to promote retail products, and add-on services appropriate for each dog’s individual needs.
- Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to provide a polished, high-end client experience.
- Comfortable communicating with a discerning clientele while maintaining a warm, polished, and solutions-oriented approach.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
- A proactive self-starter who takes initiative and thrives without constant direction.
- Able to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to being part of a collaborative team.
