Position Summary
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will provide compassionate, person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their homes and throughout the community.
Your role is to encourage independence, promote inclusion, assist with daily living activities, and help each individual achieve their personal goals while maintaining their dignity, safety, and quality of life.

What You'll Do
- Treat every individual with dignity, kindness, patience, and respect.
- Encourage independence while providing support when needed.
- Help individuals make choices and achieve personal goals.
- Advocate for each individual's rights, preferences, and independence.
Daily Living Support
Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including:
- Personal hygiene
- Dressing and grooming
- Meal preparation
- Household tasks
- Laundry and cleaning
- Medication support (as trained)
- Health and wellness monitoring
Support is always provided in a manner that encourages independence whenever possible.
Community Inclusion
Help individuals enjoy active and fulfilling lives by participating in community activities such as:
- Shopping
- Medical appointments
- Family visits
- Parks and hiking
- Swimming
- Biking
- Movies
- Concerts
- Sporting events
- Volunteering
- Other activities based on each individual's interests and goals.
Health & Safety
You will be responsible for helping maintain a safe environment by:
- Following each individual's ISP and PBSP.
- Following medication and health protocols.
- Monitoring for changes in health or behavior.
- Responding appropriately during emergencies or crisis situations.
- Following all Oregon Intervention System (OIS) guidelines when applicable.
- Maintaining confidentiality and protecting individual rights.
Documentation
Accurate documentation is an important part of providing quality care.
Responsibilities include:
- Completing documentation in THERAP.
- Recording services provided.
- Reporting health or behavioral concerns.
- Communicating with supervisors and members of the care team.
- Maintaining accurate and timely records.
Teamwork
We believe excellent care happens through collaboration.
DSPs are expected to:
- Communicate professionally with coworkers, supervisors, families, and other members of the support team.
- Participate in required meetings and training.
- Maintain a positive and respectful attitude.
- Help create a safe and supportive work environment.
Qualifications
To become a certified Direct Support Professional with Be There Home Care, applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Successfully complete all required criminal history background checks.
- Complete all required DSP Core Competency training.
- Obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
- Complete Oregon Intervention System (OIS) certification when required.
- Possess a valid driver's license when transportation is required for assigned supports.
Be There Home Care provides and pays for required initial training. During training, employees are paid the established training wage until certification requirements have been completed.
Work Environment
DSPs provide services in a variety of settings, including:
- Individual homes
- Community locations
- Recreational settings
- Medical appointments
The position may require:
- Standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting
- Assisting with transfers and mobility
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to household cleaning products
- Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts based on the needs of the individuals receiving services

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
