Position Overview
The NP or PA will primarily provide urgent care services, evaluating and treating patients with acute illnesses, injuries, and same-day medical concerns.
The ideal candidate enjoys working independently while collaborating closely with physicians and clinical staff to deliver high-quality, compassionate care.
For clinicians interested in expanding their scope of practice, there is also an opportunity to develop and grow a primary care patient panel over time. This is entirely optional and not a requirement of the role, but it offers a unique pathway for providers seeking to become more well-rounded clinicians by gaining experience in both acute and longitudinal patient care.
This position is ideal for providers who enjoy the fast-paced nature of urgent care while having the flexibility to broaden their clinical experience and build lasting relationships with patients if desired.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages presenting with acute illnesses and injuries
- Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations
- Develop and implement treatment plans
- Prescribe medications and therapies as appropriate
- Order and interpret laboratory tests, X-rays, EKGs, and point-of-care testing
- Perform common urgent care procedures including:
- Suturing and laceration repair
- Splinting and orthopedic injury management
- Abscess incision and drainage
- Wound care and minor procedures
- Educate patients regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care
- Document encounters accurately in the EMR
- Collaborate with physicians, medical assistants, radiology staff, and front office personnel
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical team development
Qualifications
- Current Massachusetts NP or PA license
- Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- ACLS certification preferred
- Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Primary Care experience required
- Strong clinical judgment and procedural skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment
- EMR proficiency
