The Support Services Business Unit is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant in Portland, OR.

As a Senior Staff Accountant, you will play a key role in our Corporate Finance Team, applying advanced accounting principles to maintain accurate records, analyze financial data, and provide valuable insights to leadership.
This role requires a seasoned accounting professional with experience in financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and budgeting. You will work independently on complex accounting functions, support business leaders with financial analysis, and contribute to continuous process improvements. Maintain and oversee the company's fixed asset accounting processes, including asset capitalization, depreciation, disposals, transfers, and reconciliations.

Manage lease accounting activities in accordance with applicable accounting standards (ASC 842), including lease setup, modifications, remeasurements, and ongoing compliance.

Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure the timely and accurate recording of capital expenditures and lease transactions.

Support annual audits by preparing fixed asset and lease accounting documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.

Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for month-end and year-end close processes.

Analyze general ledger activity to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
with GAAP. -
Produce financial reports and assist in the preparation of financial statements for management and leadership review.

Collaborate closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Tax Compliance, Project Accounting, and other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Support annual budgeting efforts and provide financial analysis to operational and business unit leaders.

Assist with internal and external audits and ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.

Develop and maintain accounting process documentation.

Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency through automation and system enhancements.

Participate in ERP system improvements, testing, and implementation initiatives.

Serve as a resource for leadership by providing financial insights and recommendations that support business decisions.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.

Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the ability to research, interpret, and apply accounting guidance.

Hands-on experience with fixed asset accounting and/or lease accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, construction-in-progress (CIP), and ASC 842 lease accounting principles, with the ability to quickly develop proficiency in both areas.

Experience preparing account reconciliations, supporting audit requests, and maintaining accurate financial records.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUPs, complex formulas, and data analysis.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and present financial information to management.

Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, and contribute effectively within a team environment.

CPA license or progress toward CPA certification.

Experience with fixed asset accounting software and/or lease accounting systems.

Experience supporting external audits, internal controls, and compliance initiatives.

Experience identifying and implementing process improvements, automation solutions, or workflow efficiencies.

Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.

Experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.

Familiarity with FAR Part 31 regulations, indirect cost accounting, and AASHTO requirements.

Potential salary range: $84,262/annually - $102,982/annually
