Position Title: Special Education Teacher
Summary: The role of the Special Education teacher is to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum. Special Education teachers will document student progress, activities and outcomes, address student’s specific needs, and provide a safe and optimal learning environment. This is a resource room position, in which the special education teacher will pull students to a separate classroom to provide small group instruction, aligned to the classroom’s instruction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
- New Jersey State Certification Preschool through Grade 3 or Elementary School Teacher in Grades K - 6 and a co-certificate New Jersey State Certification Students with Disabilities
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters.
Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
- Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:6-7.1.
- Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
- Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3.
- A valid driver’s license is preferred.
- Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO finds appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities:
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for upholding the school's vision and mission while adhering to all relevant laws, policies, and ethical standards. Key duties include:
- Student Support: Identifying learning needs through assessments, developing and implementing IEPs and behavior management plans, providing counseling, and fostering parent involvement.
- Professional Conduct: Maintaining professional competence, ensuring confidentiality, and demonstrating ethical behavior with all stakeholders.
- Collaboration & Communication: Coordinating with staff, parents, and outside agencies, and communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Operational Support: Assisting with data collection, understanding emergency plans, managing resources, and supervising students as needed.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month employee
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with New Jersey state law (Title 18A) and the provisions of the iLearn Schools policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
