Under direct supervision, the Nutrition Services Assistant Cook performs food prep, service and kitchen cleaning duties, and does related work as required. Decisions and determinations are based clearly on defined procedures or instructions or on well-defined rules and regulations. This person must interact in a professional manner with students, staff, and the public on a regular basis. The Nutrition Services Assistant Cook works under the supervision of the Nutrition Services Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions:

Performs food preparation duties.

Prepares salad bar offerings and assists with breakfast and lunch meals, following rigid timeframes and regulations through their completion.

Operates equipment found in school kitchens.

Serve food.

Performs cleaning, dish washing and other general duties in a kitchen or serving area.

May assist with the opening and closing of the kitchen prior to the beginning and after the ending of each school year.

Assists in the cleaning and storing of equipment and food supplies.

Assures an adequate supply of food items for the preparation of future menu dishes.

Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchen/cafeteria.

Completes and maintains required records.

Fulfills other related duties as assigned.

Completes required professional standards.

Meets performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.

Working Conditions:
This employee works in a kitchen/cafeteria environment. The usual hazards associated with cooking equipment, such as hot stoves, steam cookers, and cutting devices, is continually present. There may be frequent lifting of a variety of items ranging up to 50 pounds in weight. Occasional climbing on a stool or ladder is required; must be able to stand for prolonged periods. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing, and near visual acuity/depth perception.

Education and Experience:
The position requires the basic ability to read, write, and communicate, the ability to understand directions and basic mathematical concepts, and to read, interpret and convert measuring devices.
Salary Range: $19.04 - $25.13 Per Hour
