Elementary Principal/Special Education Coordinator

- The Elementary/Special Education Coordinator will be responsible for the overall administration of the Elementary school; the overall management and oversight of social-emotional and behavioral systems in the Elementary School; and the overall management, oversight, supervision, and coordination of the Elementary school’s special education and 504 programming.
The Elementary Principal serves as the instructional/educational leader responsible for student learning, staff development and curriculum planning. This position is responsible for the safety of students, staff and activities in addition to providing a pleasant and effective academic environment.

Professional Preparation and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, School Administrator or related field from an accredited university with graduate studies in administration and leadership.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate and a minimum of three-five (3-5) successful years of classroom teaching experience.
- Valid Michigan Administrative Certificate for K-12 Education.
- Working knowledge of best practice strategies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
Reports to: Superintendent.
Evaluated annually by: Superintendent.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Leads, supports and supervises the implementation of state standards and district curriculum of the elementary school in all subjects; assure compliance with all State/Federal laws and regulations regarding students, staff, and the education programs.
- Uses varied sources of evidence and analyzes data about current practices and outcomes to shape vision, mission, and goals with high measurable expectations for all students and educators.
- Conducts classroom observations and serves as the teacher supervisor as needed in the teacher evaluation system; supervises teachers and departments as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Analyzes data obtained through formative and summative assessment instruments, the District appraisal process, evaluative feedback from supervisors, and professional development programs to improve performance.
- Provides leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursues professional development activities; disseminates ideas and information to other professionals.
- Ensures appropriate programs and services for every student.
- Seeks and considers input from stakeholders while planning and implementing programs and ancillary services.
- Develops and maintains resources for the continued professional development of special education staff and support personnel.
- Conducts conferences with parents, students and teachers concerning school and student issues.
- Ensures State and Federal compliance for all students.
- Assists in the conduct of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Works with faculty and encourages student input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
- Supervises and monitors District State Testing and Accountability through the OEAA.
- Collaborates in the selection process, orientation and evaluation of staff.
- Supervises implementation of programs/services and curriculum policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Job Summary: The Elementary Principal/Special Education Coordinator shall oversee the administrative and instructional functions in order to meet the educational needs of all general and special education students. The candidate will also be asked to carry out the mission and goals of the school and the District.
Salary & Benefits:
The Board will offer a two-year contract. Compensation will be negotiable based upon qualifications and experience, and include a competitive benefits package containing a $2,400 annuity and health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term disability insurance.
