Description of Responsibilities
Position Summary
A Molecular R&D Scientist I at BioFire Defense is responsible for initiating, directing and executing scientific research and/or development strategies for BioFire Defense. A Scientist investigates the feasibility of applying a variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential products, processes, and innovations. Scientists are responsible for remaining familiar with molecular biology concepts, practices, and procedures including PCR, RT-PCR, real-time PCR, and the use of fluorescence-based nucleic acid detection techniques. A Scientist I manages a team of Research Associates who assist in executing research and development efforts under the direction of a Scientist.
Primary Duties
1. Plans and executes laboratory research supporting the development of new products and supporting the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing products.
2. Develops processes and procedures to aid in the development and maintenance of product lines.
3. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
4. Uses professional concepts to contribute to the development of company concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.
5. Requires interaction with various company departments.
6. Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought.
7. Ensures that laboratory notebooks for assigned projects/experiments are maintained in accordance with BioFire Defense Employment Handbook.
8. Performs all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Defense Quality System.
9. May contribute to literature and conferences.
10. May advise top management on corporate research and development.
11. May participate in development of patent applications.

Qualifications
Training and Education
Minimum education, certification, and/or training requirements for this position (i.e., high school diploma, college degree, and/or certification.)
A PhD in a scientific discipline is required for this position.
