About the Role
VPS is a rapidly growing electric vehicle and powersports manufacturer. We are seeking a hands-on Assistant Production Manager to support day-to-day production operations at our Summerville, SC facility.
This role works closely with the Production Manager to ensure efficient, high-quality, and safe assembly operations. You will help lead production teams, drive process improvements, maintain quality standards, perform/lead maintenance and keep production flowing smoothly as we scale.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operations
- Support daily production activities and workflow to meet schedule and output targets
- Assist in coordinating labor, materials, and equipment to maintain efficient line flow
- Monitor productivity, efficiency, and production performance in real time
- Help identify bottlenecks and implement practical solutions quickly
- Support development and continuous improvement of assembly processes and SOPs
- Manage projects and lead small teams
- Assist Management with operational tasks
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Assist in supervising, training, and developing production staff and team leads
- Help foster a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work environment
- Support shift leadership, team meetings, and performance feedback
- Step in to lead production activities when needed
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure work meets company quality standards and customer expectations
- Support quality checks and help address production issues as they arise
- Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective actions
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce workplace safety policies and OSHA standards
- Support regular safety meetings and jobsite inspections
- Help ensure equipment is operated and maintained properly
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with Production leadership, Supply Chain/Logistics, Purchasing, and other departments
- Communicate production status, issues, and needs clearly and promptly
- Help maintain accurate production records and support KPI tracking
Schedule
Core production hours are typically Monday–Friday. 7:00 AM to 4:00PM
Flexibility may be required based on production needs.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in a production, manufacturing, or assembly environment
- Prior supervisory or management experience
- Strong understanding of manufacturing workflows, OEE quality standards, and safety practices
- Ability to lead by example and work effectively on the production floor
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable using basic computer systems, production tracking tools, and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
- Professional working proficiency in English required
- Spanish language skills as a secondary language required
Preferred Experience
- Assembly or manufacturing experience in automotive, powersports, golf cart, EV, or related industries
- Experience supporting production scheduling and labor coordination
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles
- Experience training and developing production team members
