About us
Two brothers started this company in Burbank 16 years ago. It's still family owned, and it's grown into one of the largest and most trusted roofing contractors across Southern California. We take a lot of pride in doing right by our customers and by each other. We believe in doing things right, and that applies to our books just as much as it applies to a roof.
The role
We're looking for someone to own our accounting close. This is not a data entry job. You'll be the person who decides what belongs in which period, keeps the balance sheet honest, and produces a set of books the business can actually make decisions from.
Our accounting runs through ServiceTitan and QuickBooks Online across a few related entities. There's real work to do in tightening the connection between what happens in the field and what shows up in the financials. If you like bringing order to something that's growing fast, you'll have plenty to do here.
Month-end close
- Run the close calendar and get the books closed on a predictable schedule every month
- Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, deferrals, and reclasses
- Maintain prepaid expense schedules and amortize costs into the P&L over their correct periods
- Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules
- Accrue commissions and bonuses in the period they're earned, not the period they're paid
- Assess accounts receivable for collectibility and handle bad debt reserves and write-offs
- Reconcile every balance sheet account to a supporting schedule, not just to a number
Job costing and work in process
You don't need to arrive as a WIP expert, but it's great if you have some experience and an understanding of WIP accounting to facilitate you learning to do the below tasks.
- Help maintain WIP schedules on larger and longer duration jobs
- Track costs to date, estimated cost to complete, and percentage of completion
- Calculate over and under billings and post the related entries
- Track retainage receivable and payable
- Flag jobs where estimated costs are drifting so operations can act before the job closes
Day to day accounting
- Prepare and send customer invoices out of ServiceTitan, and process, apply, and deposit customer payments
- Review and sync invoices, payments, deposits, and bills from ServiceTitan into QuickBooks Online
- Reconcile bank accounts monthly, and review and categorize credit card transactions weekly
- Process vendor and subcontractor bills and payments through QuickBooks and vendor portals
- Maintain sales commission and employee bonus tracking, and audit technician hours for accuracy
- Track technician tips and make sure they're recorded and reported correctly through payroll
- Support accounts receivable collections and resolve customer billing questions
- Handle subcontractor insurance compliance tracking, business license renewals, and workers' compensation payments
What we're looking for
- Ideally, five or more years in accounting with real ownership of a month-end close
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field
- Solid working knowledge of accrual accounting. You should be comfortable explaining why a cost belongs on the balance sheet instead of the P&L, and be able to build the schedule that gets it there
- Comfortable getting into the job costing side of construction accounting, whether or not you've done it before
- Strong QuickBooks Online skills, including recurring journal entries and multi-entity work
- Advanced Excel. Pivot tables, lookups, and the discipline to keep a supporting schedule tied out month after month
- Clear, professional communication. You'll talk to customers about their bills and to subcontractors about their paperwork
- Discretion with sensitive financial information
Nice to have
- Experience with WIP schedules, job costing, and percentage of completion accounting, ideally in construction or trades. This one is a real plus
- ServiceTitan experience, or experience with a similar field service platform
- Experience closing books for more than one entity and preparing consolidations
Pay and benefits
- $85,000 to $110,000 per year, depending on experience
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k)
- PTO, paid holidays
- Paid sick leave
Why work here
We're a growing company with multiple sites with real ambitions, and this seat matters. You'll have real visibility into how the whole business runs. We believe in fairness, personal accountability, and having some fun while we get the work done. If you've been the invisible person in a big accounting department, this is a chance to be the one who owns it.
One thing to be upfront about. We're small enough that everyone here handles things outside their title from time to time, and that includes some hands on office work. If you want a role where you only touch the general ledger and nothing else, this probably isn't the right fit. If you like knowing how the whole thing works, it is.
