Position Summary
The GSRP Associate Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in delivering a high-quality preschool program focused on school readiness. This role helps implement daily classroom activities, supports child development, maintains a safe and engaging environment, and builds positive relationships with children and families. The Associate Teacher plays a key role in ensuring consistency, supervision, and compliance within the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
- Assist in implementing daily lesson plans using a research-based curriculum (e.g., HighScope)
- Support both child-initiated and teacher-guided learning experiences
- Help manage classroom routines, transitions, and small group activities
- Maintain active supervision of children at all times
- Step into leadership when the Lead Teacher is absent
Child Engagement & Development
- Build strong, responsive relationships with children
- Support social-emotional development through positive guidance strategies
- Assist children with problem-solving, communication, and peer interactions
- Help create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment
Assessment & Documentation
- Assist with child observations and documentation (COR)
- Support completion of developmental screenings (ASQ, ASQ-SE)
- Share observations with the Lead Teacher to support individualized planning
Family Interaction
- Greet and communicate with families daily
- Support a welcoming and respectful classroom environment
- Share general updates while deferring formal conferences to the Lead Teacher
Program Compliance
- Follow all GSRP guidelines and classroom procedures
- Maintain compliance with licensing regulations and ratios
- Participate in required trainings and professional development
- Support accurate attendance tracking and classroom documentation
Health, Safety & Environment
- Maintain a clean, organized classroom
- Follow all health, safety, and sanitation procedures
- Assist with meal/snack routines and CACFP compliance (if applicable)
- Support emergency procedures and drills
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and administrative team
- Accept feedback and implement coaching strategies
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field OR
CDA (Child Development Associate) with a commitment to continue education
- Experience working with preschool-aged children
Preferred:
- Experience in a GSRP or state-funded preschool program
- Familiarity with HighScope curriculum and COR
- Strong understanding of child development

Work Schedule
- Monday–Friday
- Typical hours: ~8:15 AM – 4:30 PM (aligned with GSRP day)
- Position for the 2026-27 school year
- Year-round option available
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Frequent standing, bending, and sitting on the floor
- Active participation in classroom activities
