Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented 1st Shift Manual Vertical Operator to join our manufacturing team. This role involves operating vertical machining centers and manual machinery to produce precision components in a fast-paced production environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, excellent blueprint reading skills, and experience with various manufacturing equipment. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to high-quality production processes while maintaining safety standards and efficiency on the first shift schedule.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
This position contributes to the company’s success by having a thorough understanding of Vertical Lathes. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable for efficient and timely production of a quality finished product
- Aware at all times of correct orientation of product being placed in machine
- Loads and unloads product
- Monitors and changes cutting tools (inserts) as needed
- Performs basic dimensional inspection of product when required
- Operates equipment in constantly high production environment
- Starts and stops cycle of equipment as needed, through use of push buttons and levers
- Removes metal shavings/chips from equipment in a safe manner
- Notify supervision of any adverse conditions that may affect quality of the finished product
- Rough machine forgings to drawings
- Other job duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), analytical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- Knowledge of operations of lathe machines
- Knowledge of a machine shop in the steel industry
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent work experience
- 1-3 years experience in related field
Physical Requirements
- Standing, bending, sitting, lifting up to 50#, squatting, and walking for 8-10 hours per day
