Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Unit Leader - Coronary Care Unit (CCU) - West Hospital
Job summary
The Unit Leader is responsible for coordinating, supporting, and overseeing clinical operations and patient care delivery within assigned procedural areas, including the Cath Lab and other cardiovascular or invasive procedural settings. In collaboration with clinical leadership, the Unit Leader applies advanced clinical knowledge, the nursing process, and strong operational judgment to guide staff, optimize patient flow, and ensure a safe, high‑quality, patient‑centered environment. This role promotes excellence in clinical practice, fosters interprofessional teamwork, supports optimal resource utilization, and maintains readiness of procedural environments, equipment, and supplies to meet patient and case-specific needs.
Essential functions
Coordinates daily operations, staffing, assignments, and procedural schedules to ensure safe, efficient patient flow.
Ensures procedural rooms are properly prepared, including equipment readiness, sterile field management, and case‑specific supplies.
Serves as a clinical resource and role model, providing real‑time support, mentoring, and precepting for staff.
Promotes patient safety and quality by rounding on patients, monitoring care standards, and participating in performance improvement initiatives.
Supports interprofessional collaboration through effective communication with physicians, anesthesia, technicians, patients, and families.
Assists with or oversees procedural tasks such as equipment operation, documentation of devices/implants, emergency response, and room turnover.
Maintains compliance with infection prevention, environmental safety, and regulatory requirements.
Provides ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance support to staff while fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability.
Engages in education, competency validation, and orientation of new staff and students.
Ensures efficient resource utilization and contributes to operational problem-solving across department

Education
Associate of Nursing, nursing (required) OR Diploma in Nursing (required)
Bachelor of Science Nursing (preferred)
Required licensing and certifications
Current RN license in state they are working or covered by compact (required)
BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to entering patient care setting)
Certifications required based on the unit(s) that the leader oversees and the requirements for those specific units:
PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred)
ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred)
NRP Neonatal Resuscitation Program (preferred)
TNCC Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (preferred)
ENPC Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (preferred)
National Board Certification Specialty (preferred)
Nurse Executive Certification or designated specialty certification (preferred)
