This position is responsible for the administration of the Criminology doctoral and master’s programs including graduate online program in Criminal Justice Studies in the College, (approx. 325 students). Administration of the graduate program includes marketing, recruitment, admissions, assistantships, graduate scholarships, advising, and reporting & information. Works directly with the faculty Graduate Director, Director of Distance Learning, and College Graduate Committee. Responsible for assisting with graduate program planning and implementation of policies, procedures, and objectives and goals.
Directs, manages, and supervises a half time PhD assistant. Responsible for coordinating graduate program activities in the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice including graduate student advising, recruitment, admissions, and career development. Assists the Director, Academic and Student Services with planning, development and evaluation of the graduate program.

Marketing and Recruitment: Directs and implements marketing and recruitment activities for graduate campus and online programs. Works with the College’s marketing manager to plan and implement effective marketing strategies for campus and online programs to increase applications and enrollment. Communicates Graduate website and social media information changes to the web manager. Makes presentations to potential graduate students, holds workshops, and promotes the Graduate Program to FSU undergraduates and others. Serves as the College liaison to the Graduate School for Slate recruitment and other related activities.

Admissions: Responsible for the graduate admissions review process used by the Academic, and Distance Learning Committees. Processes graduate applications and required documentation for committees. Provides information to Academic Committee. Identifies top students for doctoral admission and assistantships. Keeps track of and enters admission decisions. Serves as Graduate Program liaison to potential students. Communicates doctoral assistantship offers to prospective students. Coordinates the College’s annual PREVIEW visit of top doctoral students. Monitors admissions information for all graduate degree programs and keeps committees and College leadership informed. Keeps track of and maintains historical data.

Program Management: Responsible for managing graduate program activities and reporting of information, i.e., maintains student academic files, maintains excel records of historical information concerning headcount and enrollment in each program i.e., Criminology Ph.D. Traditional Masters, One-Year Master’s, Master’s in Criminal Justice Studies, instate vs. out of state, Ph.D. placements, etc. Assists Academic Committee with doctoral funding decisions and assignments (approx.55 doctoral students each fall & spring semester, 20 in summer). Creates and manages graduate assistantship offer letters, works with College HR personnel to secure required documentation to process HR actions, etc. Keeps College HR informed on changes when needed. Keeps track of teaching and research assignments and reappointments. Communicates graduate waiver information to College’s waiver coordinator. Collaborates with administrative staff to determine office space, building access, computer and resources needed for graduate students and graduate assistants. Manages the BS to MS program; promotes to FSU undergrads, approves students for entry into program, maintains student files, secures faculty permission to be added to courses, follows up with students, etc.

Advising: Responsible for doctoral and master’s student advising. Advises regarding requirements, deadlines, comprehensive exams, progress toward degree, conducts graduation checks for all graduate students and enters information in graduation tracking for the university, Advises students of any changes. Actively communicates with students regarding course availability.

Reporting: Responsible for ensuring scholarship/fellowships are awarded by Academic Committee. Coordinates Annual graduate assistantship evaluations. Enters information in the University’s graduate tracking system, Updates the student Graduate Handbook of program requirements, policies, and procedures. Ensures policies and procedures are communicated to graduate students. Responsible for completing graduate program surveys for reporting i.e. U.S. News and World Report, Best Online Graduate Program Survey, and Annual Doctoral Program in Criminology and Criminal Justice (ADPCCJ) Survey used for national ranking comparisons. Maintains database of survey information. Responsible for managing Graduate Comprehensive Exams each semester; secures testing site, communicates with students, directly supervises 2 days of exams each semester. Works with appropriate university departments on students dismissed from the program and communicates with students. Assists in the College Quality Review Process and Graduate Review process.
