Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) – Day Shift
Location: Chico, CA
Shift: 8- or 10-hour day shifts
16 Weeks Assignment
Pay Rate: $100/hourly
1. Mandatory Qualifications for This Job
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license (required)
- Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) certification (required)
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification (required)
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Minimum 2 years of RNFA experience in an acute care hospital or surgical setting
- Experience assisting surgeons during a variety of surgical procedures
- Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and patient safety protocols
- Ability to work in a fast-paced Operating Room (OR) environment
- Eligible for medical staff credentialing (6–8 week credentialing process required)
Roles and Responsibilities
- Serve as the Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) during surgical procedures under the direction of the operating surgeon.
- Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, draping, tissue handling, exposure, hemostasis, wound closure, and other intraoperative functions within the RNFA scope of practice.
- Maintain a sterile surgical environment and adhere to infection prevention and patient safety standards.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and the perioperative team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Assess patients before, during, and after surgery while providing high-quality perioperative nursing care.
- Monitor patient condition throughout procedures and respond promptly to changes in clinical status.
- Ensure accurate documentation of surgical procedures and patient care in accordance with hospital policies.
- Follow AORN, Joint Commission, state, and federal regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with evidence-based surgical practices.
- Support efficient Operating Room workflow and assist with surgical equipment and instrument management.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in continuing education and maintain required certifications and competencies.
- Float to other assigned perioperative areas as needed based on patient care requirements.
