Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Freight Coordinator to oversee and manage the international and domestic transportation and logistics operations within our Tier 1 manufacturing operation. This role focuses exclusively on coordinating ocean, air and ground freight to support timely, cost-effective and compliant movement of raw materials and components. The Freight Coordinator serves as the primary contact with freight brokers, carriers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders to ensure an uninterrupted production schedule.
Responsibilities
- Arrange and manage ocean, air, and ground freight for inbound and outbound shipments.
- Utilize and champion the Lavonia Service Portal for all freight arrangements based on freight lanes, cost, service level and transit requirements.
- Prepare, review and submit all required shipping documentation including shipping request forms, bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and export documentation (including Incoterms and HTS coding) and all other required compliance documents.
- Collaborate with and coordinate pickup and delivery schedules with freight brokers, carriers, suppliers, plants and internal teams.
- Monitor and track shipments end to end, proactively resolve delays, damages, shortages, or service failures.
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs requirements, and company policies.
- Communicate shipment status, ETAs, and exceptions clearly and promptly to internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate freight records and shipment data within the Lavonia Service Portal.
- Audit freight activity, manage On Time In Full KPIs and support freight cost control and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage and track returnable container loops with suppliers and logistics partners.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of experience coordinating ocean, air, and ground freight (preferable in an automotive manufacturing environment)
- Working knowledge of domestic and international shipping practices.
- Familiarity with Incoterms, export documentation, and freight billing.
- Experience working with freight brokers, forwarders, carriers and customs brokers.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously in a fast paced, production-driven environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience supporting automotive Tier 1 or OEM supply chains preferred.
- Experience with international imports and exports.
- Understanding of customs clearance and trade compliance.
- Prior experience supporting freight optimization, cost reduction, or logistics continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency in Spanish is a plus
