Companion Dogs is a locally owned, family operated dog daycare. We are looking for a Full-Time handler to expand our team within our dog daycare program.
We are seeking someone who is dedicated, reliable and wants to grow within the canine husbandry field. We believe in a balanced training approach. If you are "pure positive" this is not the position for you. This is a long term position, only serious applicants should apply.
The position is Monday through Friday, 7.30am - 3.30pm. Non-negotiable.
Candidate must have a valid clean drivers license. You will be responsible for transporting dogs to/from their homes in the company vehicle.
Job Overview
The ideal person will possess the skills necessary to handle multipile dogs in a safe and effective manner. This role involves working closely with various dogs with a range of behaviors, providing them with the necessary care they require, while maintaining a calm confident attitude. The Handler will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for the dogs. Candidates who have professional dog training experience will be prioritized.
The Handler is expected to physically walk six dogs at once in all weather elements at a good pace. Experienced dog handling is non-negotiable.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the safety and behavior of dogs while playing, socializing and walking.
- Walk multiple dogs together in heel, at a good pace.
- Learn "balanced" dog training methods and tools.
- Engage in training activities with dogs to promote good behavior and obedience.
- Collaborate with team members to create a positive environment for both animals and staff.
- Provide mental stimulation and socialization for the dogs.
- Maintain cleanliness of animal living areas and equipment.
- Transport dogs to/from homes to the business in company vehicle.
Requirements
- At least 21 years old with a valid drivers license and a clean driving record.
- Reliable transportation.
- A minimum of one year experience working with dogs. Non-Negotiable.
- Ability to handle and work with dogs with behavioral issues from anxiety to aggression.
- Comfortable with handling multiple dogs at a time.
- Positive can-do attitude and passion for working with dogs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Keen understanding of dog behavior and body language.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and guidelines while handling dogs.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when required, such as handling 100+ LB dogs.
- Comfortable with using all types of training tools.
- Ability to be outside in all weather elements.
- Social media videography is a plus
