About RiboForge
RiboForge is an early-stage biotechnology company developing small-molecule medicines that target RNA. Our platform combines high-resolution structural biology, crystallography and chemistry to discover new therapeutics.
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented technician to perform delicate, microscope-guided handling of very small RNA crystals. This is a hands-on laboratory position requiring excellent fine-motor coordination, patience, concentration and the ability to execute precise movements consistently.
Candidates do not need previous crystallography or biotechnology experience. We are particularly interested in people with experience in:
- SMT or PCB rework
- Microsoldering and fine-pitch component repair
- Semiconductor die attach or wire bonding
- Optical or fiber-optic assembly
- Medical-device micro-assembly
- Histology or microtomy
- Microdissection or microinjection
- Jewelry setting, watch repair or similar precision work
We will provide training in crystal handling, laboratory procedures and cryogenic safety.
The Role
You will work under a stereo microscope to identify, retrieve, transfer and cryogenically preserve fragile RNA crystals. Many of these crystals are considerably smaller than an 0201 electronic component.
The work requires excellent microscope proficiency, depth perception, hand-eye coordination, patience and the ability to perform controlled movements consistently. It is similar in some respects to 0201 component rework, fine-pitch microsoldering, wire bonding or other precision work performed under magnification.
Responsibilities
- Operate a stereo microscope at magnification suitable for 0201-level work and smaller objects
- Identify and manipulate microscopic crystals within small liquid droplets
- Retrieve crystals using extremely small loops and precision tools
- Transfer crystals between solutions without damaging or losing them
- Mount and cryogenically preserve crystals using liquid nitrogen after completing safety training
- Use fine tweezers, probes, loops and other micro-manipulation tools
- Perform repetitive precision tasks with consistency and care
- Inspect samples and document crystal quality, damage and harvesting results
- Label and track samples accurately
- Follow written procedures and laboratory safety requirements
- Prepare microscope stations, tools, plates and solutions
- Maintain a clean, organized and contamination-controlled workspace
- Work with scientists to troubleshoot procedures and improve harvesting throughput
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience performing precision work under a stereo microscope
- Comfortable working at magnification suitable for 0201-size components or similarly small objects
- Experience manipulating sub-millimeter objects using fine tools
- Strong hand-eye coordination and the ability to make controlled movements under magnification
- Ability to maintain focus during detailed and repetitive work
- Strong attention to quality, cleanliness, labeling and documentation
- Ability to follow detailed written instructions and reproduce a process consistently
- Willingness to learn laboratory techniques and cryogenic safety procedures
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred but Not Required
- Experience in a laboratory, cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environment
- Experience handling fragile or high-value materials
- Familiarity with SOPs, batch records or quality-control systems
- Basic computer skills for sample tracking and documentation
- Associate degree, technical certificate or relevant vocational training
Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
