Position Summary
The Lander is responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate handling of cargo during vessel loading and unloading operations. This role works closely with crane operators, equipment operators, and stevedore crews to ensure cargo is positioned, secured, and moved in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations. The Lander plays a critical role in maintaining operational efficiency while protecting personnel, cargo, vessels, and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in loading and unloading cargo from vessels, barges, trucks, and railcars.

Direct crane operators and heavy equipment operators using standard hand signals and radio communication.

Position, secure, and release cargo safely during lifting operations.

Inspect cargo, slings, shackles, chains, spreader bars, and lifting gear before and during operations.

Ensure cargo is properly staged, stored, and secured within designated terminal areas.

Monitor work areas for potential hazards and immediately report unsafe conditions.

Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and terminal operating procedures.

Maintain clear communication with supervisors and team members throughout cargo operations.

Assist with housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Complete required operational and safety documentation as assigned.

Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training programs.

Perform other duties as assigned to support terminal operations.
Qualifications

TWIC card is required
-
High school diploma or GED preferred.

Previous experience in marine terminal, stevedoring, warehouse, logistics, construction, or heavy industrial operations preferred.

Ability to work safely around cranes, heavy equipment, and moving cargo.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work at varying heights.

Bend, kneel, squat, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks.

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, humidity, and wind.

Ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and high-visibility clothing.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Employee must be authorized to work in the United States, obtain a port ID, and TWIC license.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary depending on the company’s needs.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Applicants need to be able to obtain a Ports ID and a TWIC card.
