ROLE OVERVIEW
As a Ramp Supervisor, you will lead a team of ramp agents, ensuring aircraft are handled safely and efficiently on the ground. Your duties will include coordinating baggage handling, aircraft towing, and aircraft servicing, all while adhering to stringent safety and operational guidelines. You will play a crucial role in training and mentoring team members, as well as collaborating with flight crews and other airport personnel to facilitate prompt aircraft turnarounds. This position also demands quick thinking, effective problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining high levels of customer service and operational effectiveness.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee ramp team activities, including the loading and unloading of aircraft.
- Coordinate ramp activities to ensure flights turn around on schedule.
- Provide training and mentorship to ramp team members regarding operational procedures and safety regulations.
- Monitor the team's adherence to airline and airport policies.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings to review daily tasks and emphasize key safety points.
- Supervise the correct handling of baggage, cargo, and mail to avoid damage or loss.
- Manage communication between the ramp team, flight crew, and ground operations personnel.
- Ensure ground support equipment is properly used and maintained.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols and prevent hazards on the ramp to maintain a safe work environment.
- Address and resolve operational issues and emergencies effectively.
- Promote effective teamwork to achieve flight schedules and service standards.
- Evaluate employee performance and offer feedback to ramp team members.
- Ensure compliance with all DOT regulations and guidelines, including overseeing the safe and legal operation of airport vehicles, equipment, and personnel involved in airside and landside operations.
- Perform regular audits and inspections to confirm compliance with DOT standards, including reviewing maintenance records, driver qualifications, and safety procedures, and provide training and updates to staff on changes in DOT regulations as required.
- Coordinate with other airport departments for seamless operations.
- Keep precise records of ramp operations and any incidents that occur.
- Cultivate a culture of safety and professionalism within the team.
- Uphold customer service and safety standards.
- Handle any additional responsibilities assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Possession of a valid state-issued driver’s license with a clean driving record is essential.
- Communicate proficiently in English, both verbally and in writing.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in ramp operations or a related field within aviation is required.
- Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
- Comprehensive understanding of ramp safety and operational protocols.
- Ability to access and interpret information in print and electronically, including the use of electronic devices including IPads/Tablets, Computers, and Mobile Devices
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and clients, both in-person and through electronic means
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screening is mandatory.
- Must be eligible to obtain necessary credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal- as applicable).
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required due to the 24/7 nature of airline operations.
