Our vision for this position is to lead the plant in achieving Safety Specialist objectives by driving increased safety awareness, implementing effective engineering controls, and developing comprehensive training, policies, and procedures. The primary focus of this role is to sustain and continuously improve the existing environmental, health and safety programs while developing new initiatives aimed at reducing incident recordables and environmental impact across the facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Coordinate with Safety Manager to work toward common goals and purpose.
Accident Prevention Systems
- Develop, implement, and administer safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations related to safety.
- Conduct safety audits to ensure safety policies and procedures are being followed and administered correctly.
- Design, implement, and maintain programs and systems that track, evaluate, and drive reduction of work-related injuries
- Track and analyze accident data to identify problem areas and develop countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence, reduce incidence and severity.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are followed during OSHA or other regulatory inspections.
- Ensure accidents and near misses are adequately investigated to develop countermeasures and prevent reoccurrence. Conduct reenactments to determine root cause.
Administrative Systems
- Collaborate with the workers' compensation specialist to track incidents and costs, and develop targeted solutions for high‑risk injuries
- Assist with investigations and other requests from corporate legal counsel
- Effectively maintains files, training records, and all state and federal required documents.
- Review safety-related guidelines, policies, and procedures, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and best practices while supporting consistent implementation across the workforce.
Educational & Organizational Development Systems
- Develops, supervises, and coordinates training programs which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety awareness. These will be focused on top accidents in the interest of reducing incidents.
- Work with the Training Department to provide adequate health and safety training programs to meet and/or exceed Federal, State, local, and plant regulations.
- Research and evaluate current and emerging safety trends and incorporate applicable best practices into existing training initiatives to improve effectiveness and engagement.
- Work with outside contractors to provide training when required.
Continuous Improvement Systems
- Proactively develop, implement, and administer systems to prevent accidents in the workplace
- Lead the plant in developing and accident/injury free culture.
Communications Systems
- Communicate with plant leadership and departments on current initiatives
- Effectively promote safety awareness throughout the plant.
- Issue monthly safety topics to be discussed in team meetings.
- Issue charts and graphs to depict actual results against planned results.
Requirements:
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Five(5) to Eight (8) years of experience in Safety and Health within an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry safety standards
- Ability to conduct audits, investigations, and root‑cause analysis
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- OSHA 30‑hour General Industry certification preferred
- ISO‑45001 auditing experience preferred
- Certifications in First Aid/CPR, PIT, LOTO, ergonomics, or behavior‑based safety are a plus
