Mighty Arm Excavation is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Civil Estimator to join our growing team. This position is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for excavation, earthwork, demolition, and underground utility projects throughout Seattle and the Greater Seattle area.
The ideal candidate will have experience estimating local earthwork and civil construction projects, with a strong understanding of Seattle-area soil conditions, construction practices, municipal standards, agency specifications, right-of-way requirements, and public works documentation.
The estimator will review plans and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing, develop complete project budgets, and prepare professional proposals. This role works closely with company leadership, field operations, clients, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to help secure profitable work while maintaining Mighty Arm Excavation’s reputation for quality, integrity, and reliability.

Responsibilities
- Review civil plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, utility standards, and bid documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for excavation, grading, demolition, trenching, underground utilities, imported fill, exported material, asphalt and concrete restoration, erosion control, and related site work.
- Prepare complete project estimates including labor, equipment, trucking, materials, subcontractors, permits, and overhead.
- Solicit and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and value engineering opportunities.
- Prepare professional proposals, bid forms, qualifications, and scope letters.
- Coordinate with project management and field personnel to ensure estimates reflect actual production methods and construction sequencing.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and perform occasional site visits as required.
- Maintain estimating databases, production rates, historical costs, and supplier pricing.
- Track bid results and continuously improve estimating accuracy.
- Assist with change order pricing, budgeting, and project cost tracking as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of estimating experience in excavation, civil construction, utilities, earthwork, or heavy civil construction.
- Strong understanding of excavation methods, grading, trenching, underground utilities, demolition, and site development.
- Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, profiles, details, and specifications.
- Experience with public works, prevailing wage, and private commercial projects is preferred.
- Knowledge of CSI MasterFormat, WSDOT specifications, and local municipal standards is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.

Preferred experience with one or more of the following:
- PlanSwift
- Bluebeam Revu
- Microsoft Excel (advanced)
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Outlook
- Adobe Acrobat
- Construction management software (Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar)
Experience with PlanSwift Earthwork Pro is considered an asset.
