Position Summary: The Service Technician plays a key role at Vermeer High Plains and is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment to the highest quality standards. This position is a combination of shop and field work, requiring flexibility to perform repairs both in the shop and at customer job sites. Work must be completed in a timely, professional, and safe manner.
Pay: Negotiable depending on qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and implement effective repair solutions
- Perform repairs and maintenance on machinery, systems, and components
- Work both in the shop and in the field, traveling to customer service calls as needed
- Operate a service truck and respond to off-site repair needs
- Conduct equipment inspections and conditioning to ensure optimal performance
- Utilize technical knowledge and software systems to interpret schematics and complete repairs
- Review and stay current on Vermeer product service bulletins
- Follow all federal, state, and company safety policies and procedures
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses
- Participate in safety trainings and assist with maintaining a clean shop
- Properly dispose of used oils, chemicals, and other materials
- Complete other duties as assigned
Travel & Training Requirements
- Occasional overnight travel required
- Must attend a one-week training program in Pella, IA
- Participate in ongoing Vermeer training programs, including certification opportunities
Required Skills & Experience
- Verifiable experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude, including electrical and hydraulic diagnostics
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working in both shop and field environments
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certification in a related field preferred
- Valid CDL preferred
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior experience as a Service Technician or in a related field required
- Working knowledge of tools, machinery, and diagnostic equipment used in the industry
Physical Requirements
- Frequent use of hands, tools, and controls; reaching with hands and arms
- Regular standing, talking, and hearing; occasional walking, sitting, climbing, kneeling, and crawling
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs frequently and up to 150 lbs occasionally
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
Work Environment
- Work performed in both shop and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, and loud noise levels
- Possible exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and electrical hazards
