ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY MANAGER
R.E. Staite is a small business, general engineering contractor with its office and marine facility located in San Diego, California. For over 75 years, R.E. Staite has specialized in marine and heavy construction, deep pile foundations, bridge construction and dredging, successfully completing projects along the western seaboard from Panama to Alaska.
R.E. Staite is seeking a full time Environmental Compliance and Safety Specialist
Responsibilities:
- Plans, implements, and monitors safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations
- Plans, implements, and monitors environmental program policies, objectives, and procedures, ensuring company compliance with local, state, and federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws and regulations
- Inspects Company facilities to detect existing or potential Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented
- Examines plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to determine if all safety precautions have been included
- Provide technical guidance regarding the correct use of personal protective equipment
- Develops and implements a program and system to track and evaluate worker injuries
- Provides ongoing training and meetings on EHS procedures, policies, and practices
- Ensures inspections are conducted, correction actions are completed on time, and all necessary documentation meets Company, federal, state, and local regulations
- Stays abreast of latest EHS regulations. Serves as a technical resource to staff and project job sites
- Develops and maintains appropriate electronic and hard copy reports and records
- Acts as the Company’s EHS spokesperson with outside representatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required
Basic qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience with performing audits and inspections, supporting compliance with applicable Federal, state, and local regulatory standards
- Training in USACE EM 385 & CQM, CAL/OSHA Title 8, OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926 and HAZWOPER
- Experience with leading and conducting environmental compliance audits, assessments, and inspections to determine compliance with Federal, state, and local standards and company and agency environmental policies and procedures
- Knowledge of environmental regulatory standards and programs
- Knowledge of regulatory program areas, including air emissions, potable water, water pollution control, hazardous materials management, solid and hazardous waste management, storage tank management, and toxic substances control
- Knowledge of watercraft safety requirements
- Proven track record of worksite EHS improvements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint, and willing to learn new software systems
- Must have a valid U.S. driver's license, pass a drug test, and be able to pass a Federal background investigation
