Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) transactions.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts, and general ledger accounts.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Maintain accurate financial records for multiple properties and business entities.
- Process owner distributions and vendor payments.
- Review invoices for accuracy, proper coding, and approval prior to payment.
- Monitor outstanding balances and assist with collections as needed.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Prepare financial reports, supporting schedules, and management reports.
- Maintain organized digital accounting records and supporting documentation.
Property Management Accounting
- Reconcile resident ledgers and security deposit accounts.
- Review rent collections and investigate payment discrepancies.
- Monitor utility expenses and property operating costs.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and expense tracking for individual properties.
- Verify the accuracy of monthly property financial statements.
Administrative
- Maintain accounting files and financial documentation in accordance with company policies.
- Respond professionally to accounting-related inquiries from management, vendors, and residents.
- Assist with annual audits, tax preparation, and CPA requests.
- Recommend improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience. Property management or real estate accounting experience is preferred.
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Experience with AppFolio, QuickBooks, or similar accounting/property management software is preferred.
- Accounting Knowledge: Solid understanding of GAAP, bank reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.
- Organization: Exceptional attention to detail with outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem Solving: Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive financial information with professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
Additional Information
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM
- Ability to Relocate: Chicago, IL 60610: Relocate before starting work (Required)
Pay: $66,560.00 - $79,040.00 per year
