Responsibilities/Job Description:
Fairview is looking to hire a Spanish Translator/Interpreter to join our team based out of Fairview Riverside University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position, working 80 hours every two weeks, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with weekends as needed.
The ideal candidate will have experience providing Spanish interpretation and translation in a healthcare setting, including in-person, video, and telephone interpreting. We are looking for someone with strong verbal and written Spanish language skills, experience using translation technologies and CAT tools, and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. The successful candidate will be flexible, highly organized, and comfortable juggling multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Spoken language health care interpreters/translators act as communication and cultural liaisons between Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, companions, authorized decision makers, and their healthcare team by providing meaningful language services and supporting effective communication by providing interpretation and written translations.
Responsibilities

Provide accurate, complete, and impartial spoken language interpreting in health care and operational settings, including video, and telephone encounters, as assigned.

Select and apply the appropriate interpreting mode (consecutive or simultaneous) based on the clinical or situational context.

Manage communication flow to promote direct interaction between patients, families, and staff while maintaining professional boundaries.

Adhere to the NCIHC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, including confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality, and role boundaries

Adhere to the ATA's Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility, including confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality, and role boundaries

Translate written health care and operational content between English and the target language(s), including patient messages, short documents, forms, and digital content, in accordance with Language Services standards work flows.

Perform first‑draft translations, machine‑translation post‑editing, proofreading, and document alignment as assigned.

Prioritize translation work based on turnaround time requirements, patient safety considerations, and departmental guidance.

Ensure translations are accurate, culturally appropriate, and suitable for the intended clinical or operational use.

Document interpreting encounters and translation activities accurately in designated systems (e.g., Epic or other departmental tools), following department standards.

Support patient, family, and staff communication access in alignment with organizational policies, patient rights, and regulatory requirements.

Participate in quality improvement work flows, work flow pilots, or testing of language access tools and processes as requested
Required Qualifications

Certificate in healthcare interpreting or minimum of 40 hours of formal training

2 years Experience providing spoken language interpreting in health care or human services settings, including in‑person, video, and/or telephone interpreting.

1 year Demonstrated ability to manage workload across multiple service types (interpreting and translation), adjust priorities, and respond to changing operational needs

2 years Experience performing written translation of health care‑related content, such as short documents, patient messages, forms, or internal communications, in accordance with organizational standards and work flows.

Active on Spoken Language Interpreter roster with the Minnesota Department of Health Upon Hire
Preferred Qualifications

Associate of Arts Associate degree or higher in interpreting and translating or related fields.

5 years Experience providing spoken language interpreting in health care or human services settings, including in‑person, video, and/or telephone interpreting.

5 years Experience performing written translation of health care‑related content, such as short documents, patient messages, forms, or internal communications, in accordance with organizational standards and work flows.

2 years Experience documenting interpreting encounters and translation activities in electronic medical record (EMR) systems or other designated departmental tools.

National Certification for Health care Interpreters

Certified Translator from the American Translators Association within 1 Year

Certificate of interpreting from an accredited post-secondary institution
Qualifications: $26.58- $37.53 Hourly
