SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant works with Practitioners to increase patient’s access to appointments, services, and health care resources, thereby supporting patient’s self-care management goals. Medical Assistant is responsible for everything from administrative work to clinical patient care, assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of Physician by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The information in this job description indicates the general nature and level of work performed. 1. Interview patients, measure vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, O2 SAT.
2. Verify and obtain patient information and medical history.
3. Prepare patients for examination and prepare examinations rooms.
4. Administer injectable and oral medications.
5. Administer injectable and oral immunizations to infants and adults, including Mantoux test.
6. Perform routine in office lab duties such as Hct, urinalysis dipstick, pregnancy test, strep antigen screen, Hgb A1c, blood glucose, blood lead, and other CLIA waived laboratory tests.
7. Operate medical equipment such as EKG, vitals machine, Audiometry, Nebulizer treatment, Tympanometry, and other diagnostic equipment.
8. Perform office procedures such as Snellen, ear lavage, minor wound dressing, splinting and assist with minor procedures.
9. Assist with referrals such as making referrals, calls medical facility or department to schedule patients and request reports.
10. Ensure exam rooms are cleaned and restocked with medical supplies on a daily basis and monthly expirations are performed.
11. Coordinates closely with supervisor/manager with any clinical issues, maintenance/equipment repair, and report any supply request to the supervisor/manager.
12. Prepares daily huddle for providers, and runs reports from computerized registries, or software programs such as EHR and i2i.
13. Ensure that patient records are accurate and complete, ensure that encounter forms are completed properly.
14. Ensures that all clinical Team responsibilities/tasks are completed appropriately, satisfactorily and in a timely manner
15. Prepares appropriate forms as required for the patient’s medical treatment based on findings of physician.
16. Gives counseling, care and follow-up instructions, health education and materials to patients under the direct supervision of a Physician, Podiatrist or Licensed Nurse.
17. Performs general office duties such as answering telephones, taking messages, and scheduling appointments.
18. May serve as a VFC Coordinator/Back up Coordinator for VFC Program and for Private/County vaccine programs
19. May rotate within Primary Care Teams, First 5 Program and Specialty Clinics
20. Assumes responsibility for own personal and professional growth.
21. Maintains a safe and secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control standards.

23. May be assigned to work at the Santa Ysabel Clinic and will be responsible for all associated duties of a Medical Assistant
24. Position may be re-assigned during activation of EOP.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Must be a graduate of a vocational or technical college in medical assisting.
- Experience working as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting
- Pediatric and Immunization knowledge and experience preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWELDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Skilled in all medical assisting competencies (e.g., immunizations, vitals, taking labs, etc.)
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Demonstrates clinical competence and knowledge of medical procedures and terminology.

- Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Electronic health records software (OCHIN EPIC preferred).
- Utilization of Paycom, and PolicyTech systems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, MEMBERSHIPS AND REGULATIONS
- Medical Assistant Certification
- Current AED CPR certification or attainment within 6 months of hire.
- Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test.
- Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.
- Must pass criminal background check.
