The Senior Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Senior Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training where required.
We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Network Engineer with strong technical expertise in designing, supporting, and optimizing enterprise LAN, WAN, wireless, and voice networks. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced troubleshooting skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to ensure stability, security, and scalability across a diverse network environment. The ideal candidate will excel in managing switches, routers, wireless infrastructure, firewalls, VPNs, and network monitoring systems. Experience with network performance tuning, documentation, automation using scripts/tools, and vendor coordination will be essential. This individual’s depth of knowledge and operational discipline will directly support high availability, reliability, and continuous improvement of the City’s network services.

Evaluate Current Network Tool Sets

Assess monitoring, alerting, and performance-tracking tools to ensure they are being fully leveraged. Identify opportunities to enhance visibility into LAN/WAN/WLAN performance, capacity, and security posture.

Determine if additional tools would improve operations, automation, or resiliency.
Benchmarking and Gap Analysis

Evaluate current network performance, resiliency, and security against industry standards and organizational needs.

Network Topology & Dependency Mapping

Recommend and participate in modernization initiatives such as switch refreshes, wireless redesign, WAN upgrades, and resiliency improvements.
