Position Summary
SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Freeport, Maine is seeking a reliable, motivated, and skilled Hotel Maintenance Technician/Handyman to join our Engineering team. This position is responsible for ensuring the hotel remains safe, functional, and well-maintained while providing exceptional service to our guests.
The ideal candidate enjoys troubleshooting, working with their hands, and taking pride in maintaining a high-quality hotel environment. Previous hotel maintenance experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train individuals with strong experience in general maintenance, facilities maintenance, apartment maintenance, construction, HVAC, plumbing, or electrical work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the overall condition of the hotel through daily repairs, preventative maintenance, and prompt response to guest service requests.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform preventative maintenance throughout the hotel.
- Repair and maintain guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Troubleshoot and repair PTAC (hotel HVAC) units.
- Perform basic plumbing repairs, including toilets, sinks, faucets, and drains.
- Complete basic electrical repairs, including switches, outlets, lighting, and fixtures.
- Repair drywall, patch walls, and complete painting projects.
- Repair doors, locks, furniture, hardware, and guest room fixtures.
- Replace lighting throughout the property.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance requests.
- Complete work orders using the hotel's maintenance management system.
- Assist with property renovations and improvement projects.
- Maintain equipment, tools, and workshop in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
- Follow all Marriott brand standards and company safety procedures.
- Assist with emergency situations when necessary.
- Support all departments to ensure an exceptional guest experience.
Qualifications
Successful candidates should possess:
- General building maintenance experience.
- Basic plumbing knowledge.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Carpentry, drywall repair, and painting experience.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose maintenance issues.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on ladders or in confined spaces.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
The following experience is a plus but not required:
- Hotel or hospitality maintenance experience.
- HVAC certification or EPA Certification.
- Pool Operator Certification (CPO).
- Experience using Quore or similar hotel maintenance software.
- Commercial building maintenance experience.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and reach.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures.
- Safely operate ladders, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
