As a Janitor/Facilities Cleaner at SCC Early Childhood Centers, you will play a vital role in ensuring our multi-site child care centers are spotless, safe, and inviting for children, families, and staff. Job Title: Evening / Overnight Cleaner
Location: Child Care Center
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round (Long-Term)
Schedule: Four evenings per week, approximately 7.25 hours per shift
Shift Time: 5:00 PM – 1:45 AM (includes one 30-minute unpaid break and one 15-minute paid break)
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and dependable Evening/Overnight Cleaner to join our team at our child care center. This full-time, long-term, year-round position works five evenings per week and is responsible for performing extreme deep cleaning protocols throughout the entire facility to restore and maintain all areas to a new or near-new condition.
This role requires a strong commitment to sanitation excellence, professionalism, discretion, and maintaining a safe, healthy environment for children and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive deep cleaning of all classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, kitchens, storage spaces, and common areas
- Restore floors, walls, fixtures, furniture, and equipment to like-new condition
- Execute daily extreme deep cleaning and sanitation protocols
- Disinfect high-touch surfaces using approved cleaning agents
- Shampoo carpets and rugs as needed
- Clean and sanitize restrooms to health-code standards
- Clean windows, baseboards, vents, light fixtures, and other detailed surfaces
- Empty trash and properly dispose of waste
- Maintain cleaning equipment and report maintenance issues
- Secure building at the end of shift
- Follow all safety guidelines and child-care sanitation standards
- Observe and maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding center operations, staff, children, and families
Qualifications & Requirements
- Ability to pass an extensive background check (required for child care environments)
- Must be 18+ years of age
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
- Valid Driver’s License without restrictions
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
- Previous professional cleaning or custodial experience preferred
- Experience with deep cleaning and sanitation protocols strongly preferred
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and high personal standards
- Demonstrated professionalism and discretion
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb as needed
- Able to operate cleaning equipment safely
- In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
- Ability to work a schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
