St. Laurent Brothers Candy & Nut Shop is seeking a dependable, organized, and technology-minded Assistant Retail Manager to join our growing team.
This position is much more than assisting with daily retail operations—you'll serve as the Retail Manager's right hand while helping lead two successful store locations. About the Role
The Assistant Retail Manager supports the Retail Manager in overseeing daily store operations, employee supervision, merchandising, inventory, customer service, and technology. This position will be fully cross-trained at both our Bay City and Midland stores and must be comfortable working at either location.
The Assistant Retail Manager should be prepared to step into a leadership role whenever a Retail Manager is on vacation, on leave, unavailable, or if a management position becomes vacant.
Key ResponsibilitiesStore Operations
- Assist the Retail Manager with the day-to-day operation of both retail locations.
- Ensure the sales floor remains clean, organized, fully stocked, and visually appealing.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures.
- Maintain merchandising standards and seasonal displays.
- Help coordinate inventory and product transfers between locations.
- Identify operational issues and proactively work toward solutions.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and support retail associates during daily operations.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.
- Help create and monitor daily task lists.
- Provide coaching and constructive feedback to team members.
- Lead store operations in the Retail Manager's absence.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service and lead by example.
- Assist customers with product recommendations and questions.
- Professionally resolve customer concerns.
- Help ensure staff remain knowledgeable about products and promotions.
Technology & Administrative Support
*Technology is an important part of this position. The ideal candidate is comfortable learning new software and troubleshooting common technology issues.Responsibilities include:
- Creating promotional signage and marketing materials using Canva.
- Using Microsoft Excel for basic spreadsheets, organization, and reporting.
- Operating and troubleshooting Point-of-Sale (POS) systems.
- Assisting with basic computer, printer, barcode scanner, and network troubleshooting.
- Supporting retail technology and software implementation.
- Experience with Shopify is a plus, but not required.
Inventory & Cash Handling
- Assist with receiving deliveries and stocking merchandise.
- Maintain accurate inventory and product rotation.
- Support inventory counts and audits.
- Assist with balancing tills, deposits, and following company cash-handling procedures.
Cross-Training
The Assistant Retail Manager will receive comprehensive training at both our Bay City and Midland locations. Flexibility to work at either location is required to ensure consistent leadership and operational support across both stores.
Schedule & Availability
This is a full-time management position. While standard office hours are generally Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, flexibility is required.
Retail Managers and Assistant Retail Managers share responsibility for ensuring both stores remain fully staffed and operating smoothly.
Because Saturdays are our busiest sales day, the Assistant Retail Manager is expected to be available to provide store coverage when necessary, including weekends, if an employee calls in, fails to report for a scheduled shift, or an unexpected staffing shortage occurs. Management is expected to help ensure uninterrupted operations and excellent customer service.
Evening, weekend, holiday, and overtime availability is required during busy seasons and special events.
Peak Season Availability
Due to the seasonal nature of our business, the following periods are considered blackout dates for vacation requests except in extenuating circumstances approved by ownership:
- Fourth of July weekend
- The week leading up to Easter
- The two weeks leading up to Christmas
These are our busiest times of the year, and all members of our management team are expected to be available to support store operations during these peak business periods.
QualificationsRequired
- Previous retail supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience operating Point-of-Sale (POS) systems.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Excellent customer service abilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable learning new technology and software.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic IT and technology issues.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to work at both Bay City and Midland locations.
Preferred
- Experience creating signage and promotional materials using Canva.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Shopify POS (preferred but not required).
- Experience with inventory management systems.
- Experience training and developing employees.
