At UConn Health, this position assists the Facilities and Engineering Department with project management for repairs, installation and testing, equipment acquisition planning, outside vendor management, and provision of Facilities and Engineering services. Ensures all program components support Joint Commission and various other state and local codes that relate to electrical and mechanical equipment safety. Performs rounds on clinical (patient care) units to verify proper Facilities and Clinical Engineering equipment use and operation. Develops and monitor compliance with equipment preventive maintenance schedules. This position is located on the UConn Health campus in Farmington, CT.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Verify documentation on new building systems, equipment, inspections and equipment repairs and failures. Assists with and evaluate third-party repairs. Provides engineering support for equipment, controls and utility systems throughout the medical academic center as assigned. Documents all engineering actions and test results according to department policy, using computerized maintenance management software applications and other standard office software applications. Coordinates and or participates in requests for special projects, such as new equipment acquisition purchase planning, development of bid specifications, analysis of vendor proposals, installation planning, acceptance testing, renovations, equipment upgrades, and equipment disposal.
Develops preventive maintenance schedules and guidelines; trains all technical staff on proper testing and other procedures to be followed when performing scheduled maintenance on devices maintained by the department. Participates in development of department- and system-side quality assurance indices or continuous quality improvement initiatives related to the proper use or maintenance and repair of patient care equipment and/or equipment critical to the environment of care (EOC).
Generates reports based on the assessment of this data. Assists with assessment of department and contractor performance against quality standards, including performing quality audits as required. Perform incident investigation and equipment performance analysis as required. Develops patient care equipment safety and device-specific in- service education to patient care equipment users as needed. Reviews patient care equipment safety alerts and recall notices and take appropriate actions to ensure the affected equipment is tested or removed from service, where appropriate. Develops evaluation criteria to compare patient care and EOC equipment and devices under consideration for purchase. Perform additional tasks/duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Considerable knowledge of medical terminology; knowledge of current codes and standards governing equipment and/or facility equipment in a health care setting; some knowledge of anatomy and physiology; knowledge of purchasing, shipping, receiving, and accounts payable; interpersonal skills; ability to write reports and make presentations on operational and technical issues.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Eight Years of Engineering experience, four of which shall be in an academic medical center or healthcare setting or with hospital equipment.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:
Bachelor's degree in engineering may substitute for 4 years of engineering experience.
Master's degree in engineering may substitute for 6 years of engineering experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
Bachelor's degree, or master's degree in biomedical, electrical, mechanical engineering or other related field.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbents in this class may be exposed to electric shock hazards from equipment and exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, toxic and hazardous substances. Ability to lift forty (40) pounds and be physically able to maneuver in, under, around medical devices and facility equipment.
SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday- Friday, days 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, on call rotations as needed, weekends, holidays, and other shifts assigned to accommodate departmental needs, 30-minute unpaid meal break.
