Role Description The General Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at Kjs Convenient Stop in Tucson, AZ. This role is responsible for overseeing daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and ensuring accurate inventory levels. The General Manager leads and schedules staff, provides coaching and direction, and supports a respectful, inclusive work environment. Daily responsibilities include monitoring store cleanliness and safety, addressing customer inquiries or concerns, managing vendor deliveries,ATM/Lottery and maintaining merchandise displays. The General Manager tracks sales, controls expenses, and helps implement promotions or pricing strategies to meet performance goals, while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations. Team of 11 now but only need 3-4/day to run business fully.
Qualifications
- Must have 2-5 years of experience in retail or gas station convenience store operations, including cash handling, inventory management, and customer service.
- Proven ability to supervise, train, and motivate team members, with skills in scheduling, performance feedback, and conflict resolution.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Basic proficiency with point-of-sale systems and computer applications (e.g., email, spreadsheets) and the ability to learn new operational tools. Ex. Petrosoft, Gilbarco, HIK-Connect
- Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with customers, staff, and vendors, both in person and in writing.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, move merchandise, and perform routine physical tasks required in a convenience store environment.
- Ability to learn and pump propane.
- Lift 50+ pounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience as an assistant manager or manager in retail or food service/gas station is preferred.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Skills
- Proven supervisory or managerial experience in a retail setting.
- Excellent communication skills for managerial communication and team leadership.
- Proficiency with POS systems and retail technology tools.
- Strong knowledge of retail products and inventory management practices.
- Ability to motivate staff and promote a positive work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to increase retail sales through strategic planning and customer engagement.
- Organizational skills with attention to detail in stock control and operational procedures.
