Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our reputable dental practice. The ideal candidate will support the clinical team by providing exceptional patient care, ensuring infection control, and assisting with various dental procedures. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics. This is also a part time administrative position. We need prior experience with dental software and medical documentation is highly valued. The Dental Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining efficient operations and delivering high-quality dental services.
Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments following aseptic techniques and infection control protocols
- Assist the dentist during various procedures including chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, and medical imaging such as X-rays and 3D scans
- Take vital signs and record medical history accurately in electronic health records.
- Manage patient flow by greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and updating medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Provide patient education on dental procedures, oral hygiene, and post-treatment care using appropriate dental terminology
- Operate dental equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners while maintaining safety standards
- Assist with pediatric dentistry procedures when necessary, ensuring a comfortable experience for young patients
- Support administrative tasks such as medical coding, documentation of medical records, and coordinating with the dental reception team
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment adhering to infection control standards
- Answer phones, schedule patient appointments and administrative help as needed.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar dental clinic setting; familiarity with general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics preferred
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, or OpenDental or Eaglesoft; experience with medical documentation and coding is required
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and privacy
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely and accurately; certification in radiography preferred
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages including pediatrics
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
