Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our educational team. In this role, you will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Your expertise will foster an inclusive learning environment that promotes academic growth, social-emotional development, and independence. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a deep understanding of childhood development, and a commitment to supporting students through innovative instructional strategies and collaborative teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Design, adapt, and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and individual student needs.
- Develop and implement effective behavioral management strategies to support positive classroom behavior.
- Collaborate closely with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other professionals to coordinate comprehensive student support.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress regularly; adjust instructional methods and accommodations accordingly.
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), progress reports, and compliance records.
- Utilize educational technology tools to enhance learning experiences and facilitate communication.
- Conduct assessments such as standardized testing and formative evaluations to measure student achievement.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to discuss student progress, challenges, and strategies for home support.
- Manage classroom environment to ensure safety, inclusivity, and optimal learning conditions.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to teaching assistants or interns supporting classroom activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Valid teaching certification/license in special education or equivalent credentials.
- Proven experience working with students with disabilities in classroom settings.
- Knowledge of special education law (IDEA), IEP development, and instructional modifications.
- Strong understanding of childhood development stages and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder.
- Proficiency in behavioral therapy techniques, literacy education, math instruction, and curriculum development.
- Experience integrating educational technology into lesson planning effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with colleagues, parents, and support staff.
- Ability to manage diverse classroom behaviors using evidence-based strategies.
- Familiarity with early intervention practices and preschool or Montessori settings is advantageous.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that respects cultural diversity.
