Grounds & Maintenance Lead

The Lilypad Schools is a nature-based early childhood program seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Grounds & Maintenance Lead to oversee and maintain our Farm and Garden campuses.
This is a working leadership role for someone who takes pride in their craft, can independently complete a wide range of repairs and maintenance tasks, and is committed to keeping a property clean, safe, and visually beautiful at all times.
Position Overview
This role is responsible for both executing maintenance work and ensuring high standards across all grounds and facilities. You will take ownership of the overall appearance, functionality, and safety of the campuses while supporting and directing a small team.
Responsibilities
- Perform and oversee repairs including carpentry, plumbing, septic systems, and general maintenance
- Provide barn support- mucking stalls and removing manure from pastures, feeding farm animals
- Maintain, repair and troubleshoot equipment (lawn equipment, tractors, vehicles, small engines)
- Perform preventative maintenance (air filters, drain lines, routine system checks)
- Maintain high standards for grounds and curb appeal (mowing, edging, trimming, cleanup)
- Identify and resolve safety hazards in playgrounds, fencing, and child-occupied areas
- Apply and manage basic pest control (ants, wasps, etc.)
- Keep tools, materials, and storage areas clean and organized
- Manage and complete maintenance requests efficiently and accurately
- Provide direction and oversight to 1–3 support team members as needed
Requirements
- Full time 40 hour week
- Strong experience in carpentry, plumbing, and general maintenance
- Knowledge of septic systems, pump repair/replacement and troubleshooting
- Experience maintaining small engines, tools, and equipment
- Basic HVAC knowledge and maintenance
- Ability to diagnose problems and complete repairs independently
- Ability to supervise others and provide employee evaluations under direction from upper management
- Strong work ethic and pride in maintaining clean, organized spaces
- Comfortable working outdoors in a farm environment
- Must be able to lift at least 60 lbs
- Must pass a background check (clean background required)
Preferred
- Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role
- Experience maintaining multi-building properties, schools or multi-faceted facilities
- Farm/animal experience
- Masonry experience
Position Details
- Full-time

- Pay: $16–$18 per hour, depending on experience
