PURPOSE:
The Staff Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing and administering of occupational therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician.
DIMENSIONS:
The Staff Occupational Therapist works with staff in other clinical departments to collaborate on patient care and reports to the Director of Therapy.
ENVIRONMENT:
Lincoln Health is a 15-bed Critical Access Hospital co-located with 22-bed Long Term Care Unit. The facility employs 150-200 employees. Outpatient Therapy Services are available in Hugo, Flagler, Byers and Limon clinics. The incumbent may manage responsibilities in all sites.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administers treatments and occupational agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability.
Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.
Maintains confidentiality and patient/resident rights regarding all patient/resident/ personnel information.
Conducts self in a professional manner in compliance with unit and facility policy.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Staff Occupational Therapist provides supervision to the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants in the department.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association and Colorado License
Graduate from an approved school of Occupational Therapy.
Current BCLS (CPR) certification.
Knowledge of disease processes and related causative factors.
Knowledge of benefits and values or rehabilitative medicine.
Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique and related impact on rehabilitative medicine practice and equipment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Additional languages preferred.
Strong written and verbal skills.
OTHER SKILLS:
Basic computer knowledge. Must be able to complete training on current electronic medical records program. Will be expected to complete all billing and documentation processes as required in each setting in a timely manner.
Basic clerical skills, good telephone etiquette and organizational skills.
Knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology and physiology.
Knowledge of the operation of therapeutic modalities and equipment.
Be able to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Tolerates heavy, physical work with good stamina for length of shift.
Tolerate standing for 5 or more hours a day, sitting for 2 or more hours a day and walking for 5 or more hours a day.
Tolerate repetitive tasks and motions.
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds with proper body mechanics.
Need to distinguish colors, hear alarms and normal speaking voices.
Need to have good manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination and clarity of vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Therapy services are offered in multiple settings: outpatient clinics, hospital, care center and in homes of patients. While environments may vary, each site must allow the employee to deliver all services in a safe manner.

The employee must be able to carry out all of the items listed in the Duties and Responsibilities. The Department Director has the right to add or change duties should the need arise to deliver quality services.
