American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a CVICU position at a Magnet-designated Level II Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI, requiring a minimum of 3 years ICU experience including 1 year of CVICU experience.

Work in a 30-bed CVICU unit (7T) within a 933-bed Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center in Milwaukee, WI

Patient population includes complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical cases such as post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacements, heart transplants, esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, AAA repair, and carotid endarterectomy

Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 for critical status, 1:2 for regular ICU status, and 1:3 for mixed status; tech ratio is 1:8-10

EMR: Epic (experience required)

Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors

12-hour day shifts (0700-1900) with 36 hours per week; night shift (1900-0700) also available

Weekend rotation every third weekend

1-2 holidays required per contract

Floating may be required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), Sitter, and PACU Surge

No on-call responsibilities

Active WI or compact RN license required

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred

Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required

Most recent experience must be within the last year

Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan-Ganz, A-lines), epicardial and transvenous pacemakers, chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required

Epic EMR experience required

Experience with advanced CV surgical support such as ECMO, CVVH, IABP, and VAD is preferred

At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration

Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Responsibilities include caring for complex post-surgical cardiac, thoracic, and vascular patients; RNs may draw blood from invasive lines but are not permitted to perform peripheral sticks

24/7 support includes a dedicated CVICU Intensivist, CT Surgeon on call, Hospitalist, General Intensivist, ICU-designated Respiratory Therapist, Charge Nurse (rarely with patient assignment), and HUC; phlebotomy available for peripheral blood draws

Orientation consists of 1 day total: 2-4 hours of nurse educator onboarding followed by precepted time on the unit

Schedules follow a 6-week cycle and are typically provided 1-2 weeks before the schedule begins; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved

Facility adheres to a fatigue policy limiting all staff, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts

Scrubs must be a solid color, professional appearance; no graphics, logos, or designs

Free parking available; daytime parking is 1-2 blocks away with shuttle service, and overnight parking is in an attached structure
