Job Description:
Position Salary Range: $46,300.00 - $52,000.00 per year; DOE
This position supports an NIH-funded research project focused on developing and validating color-changing chemical time-temperature indicators used to monitor biospecimen exposure to thawed or inappropriately warm conditions. The selected candidate will perform laboratory experiments, prepare and test chemical formulations, support prototype device evaluation, collect and analyze experimental data, and assist with technical documentation, publications, and project reporting. This position works closely with faculty, researchers, and students in a collaborative laboratory environment to support ongoing research activities.
Essential Duties:
Prepare chemical reagents, solutions, samples, and reaction mixtures, and perform laboratory experiments using standard chemistry techniques and instrumentation.
Collect, analyze, and document experimental data, maintain laboratory records and inventories, and prepare technical reports, graphs, and other research documentation.
Assist with the testing and evaluation of prototype devices, including performance, stability, and compatibility under various laboratory conditions.
Collaborate with faculty, research staff, and students to support laboratory operations and research activities, including the supervision of undergraduate volunteers as needed.
Follow laboratory safety procedures and perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field preferred.
Experience working in a laboratory or research environment.
Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, chemical safety practices, and the operation of standard laboratory equipment.
Experience collecting, organizing, and documenting research data using Microsoft Office or similar software.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
Working Environment:
Combination of laboratory bench work and computer-based scientific work in a research laboratory environment.
Regular use of standard laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, lab coat, and safety glasses.
Frequent handling of chemical reagents, laboratory samples, and prototype research devices while following established laboratory safety procedures.
Work with cold storage equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, ultracold freezers, dry ice, and liquid nitrogen vapor-phase storage, as required by research activities.
Extensive computer use for data collection and analysis, recordkeeping, technical documentation, report writing, and scientific communication.
