The Original Pantry Café has served downtown Los Angeles for more than a century. We are building the kitchen team that will help reopen this historic Los Angeles institution.
We are seeking dependable, hardworking Dishwashers who can work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen while maintaining strong cleanliness, sanitation, and professional standards.
The Dishwasher is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment while helping maintain a clean, safe, and organized restaurant environment. This position also supports general cleaning and porter duties throughout back-of-house and other assigned restaurant areas.
What You’ll Do
- Operate dishwashing equipment to clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
- Ensure washed items meet cleanliness and sanitation standards before being returned to service.
- Maintain proper chemical levels and follow established sanitation procedures.
- Organize and store clean dishes, cookware, and utensils in designated areas.
- Keep the dishwashing area clean, organized, and ready for use.
- Remove trash, recycling, and other waste from the kitchen and assigned restaurant areas.
- Clean and sanitize floors, sinks, walls, drains, shelving, equipment exteriors, and other kitchen surfaces.
- Help maintain a steady supply of clean dishes and serviceware during busy periods.
- Transport dishes and cookware between the kitchen, dining area, and dishwashing station.
- Assist with kitchen setup, breakdown, and closing cleaning duties.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, chemical handling, and workplace safety procedures.
- Support cooks, prep staff, and other restaurant team members as needed during high-volume service periods.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and maintain floors in assigned back-of-house and service areas.
- Clean and maintain trash cans, waste areas, and other designated utility or storage areas.
- Assist with routine deep-cleaning projects, including hard-to-reach areas, equipment surrounds, and other areas assigned by management.
- Maintain cleaning supplies and notify management when chemicals, tools, or other supplies need to be replenished.
- Respond to spills and other cleaning needs promptly to help maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform other cleaning, sanitation, and porter-related duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous dishwashing, porter, janitorial, or commercial kitchen experience required.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, sanitation, and workplace safety.
- Ability to follow kitchen procedures, cleaning schedules, and safety guidelines.
- Dependable, team-oriented, and professional.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Scheduling and weekly hours will be based on business needs, employee availability, and applicable seniority provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
Union Position
This position is represented by UNITE HERE Local 11. Union membership requirements and dues apply in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. Employees who work at least 60 hours per month may qualify for union-negotiated benefits, including health, retirement, legal, and training benefits. Eligibility and coverage are governed by the collective bargaining agreement and applicable benefit plan terms.
Physical Requirements
This position requires prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, repetitive motion, sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing; and the ability to work in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment.
