The Crossing Guard is responsible for safely assisting students across streets and appropriately controlling vehicular and pedestrian traffic at crossings.

Hours: 7:45 - 8:15 & 2:45 - 3:15 (paid for 2 hours)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Direct or escort students across streets in a safe manner, safely stopping traffic as necessary.
Communicate traffic and crossing rules and other information to students and other pedestrians.
Place and remove crosswalk signs as needed.
Use proper hand and verbal commands as needed.
Adhere to regulations and guidelines governing school crossings.
Report any unsafe behavior of students immediately to the principal.
Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps through which pedestrians can cross safely.
Record license and vehicle information of unsafe or speeding vehicles. Report unsafe drivers or problems with traffic patterns immediately to the principal.
Maintain a constant awareness of surroundings – students possibly running to the crossing or unsafe drivers approaching the area.
Must wear highly visible vest and use district provided STOP paddle at all times while on duty.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have High School diploma or equivalent
Must be able to pass fingerprint and TB clearance
Knowledge of traffic regulations pertaining to school and pedestrian crossings
Knowledge of appropriate use of traffic control devices
Ability to quickly assess and make a determination of safety with traffic and students
Ability to manage groups of children
Ability to clearly state directions in an outdoor environment, must often speak over noise of traffic
Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff, students and the public
Must be able to lift or control a STOP paddle (weighing approx. 5 lbs. repeatedly)
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, often on uneven terrain
Must be able to safely step on and off street curbs and roadway edges
Must be able to work outside in seasonal weather conditions
Must have good vision and hearing (e.g. clearly see and hear approaching vehicles, pedestrians and traffic signals)
